Arboria

Arboria is a city in Dragon Quest XI A major religious site, it is sat at the foot of Yggdrasil Herself, it serves as the gateway to the World Tree.

Overview[]

A well-populated city carved into the land itself, sporting bleach-white classical architecture, and structured similarly to a temple. To the northwest of the city is the Grove of Repose, a small wood where Serena and Veronica often played as children.

The furthest eastern end of the city is crowned by the Cathedral, filled with paintings of depicting the Age of Heroes. Gateways in this building lead to both the First Forest and the Luminary's Landing, important locations in the Luminary's quest. A terrace in the northeast of the city overlooks the mountains of the Arborian Highlands.

Story[]

The Watchers first settled in the shadow of the World Tree in ancient times, establishing what would later become Arboria. Many millenia later, the human followers of Erdwin, the first Luminary, would then settle here. Assuming the title of 'Keepers', the citizens of Arboria took upon themselves the sacred burden of protecting Yggdrasil, as well as the Luminary should he ever return, inspired by his companions. An architect carved a titanic statue of Serenica into the face of Luminary's Landing following the Age of Heroes, to accompany Erdwin's statue in his home nation of Dundrasil, as a dedication to their love. Serenica herself lived among them for a time, before departing on her own personal quest.

Around the fall of Dundrasil at the hands of Mordegon, Father Benedictus, the incumbent priest of Arboria's cathedral, foresaw that Fidelus and Alma, two Keepers, would bear a child, the reincarnationn of Serenica's powers. It would later become apparent that the couple bore twins, who would be named Veronica and Serena, although Benedictus had effectively told a half-lie, as the two girls were not Fidelius and Alma's biological children, but rather they were found by Benedictus abbandoned in a basket in a nearby thicket. Nevertheless, upon coming of age, Veronica and Serena left Arboria in search of the Luminary reborn.

A Hero Comes of Age[]

Towards the end of his journey to Yggdrasil, the new Luminary came to Arboria, where he met with Father Benedictus and the Keepers. There, he was educated on the story of the Luminary of Legend, before ascending The First Forest to reach the World Tree.

Rise of the Lord of Shadows[]

Having been reunited in the aftermath of Yggdrasil's fall, the Luminary returns with a completed party. It is here that Veronica is found dead in the Grove of Repose, and her sacrifice is made known. The people of Arboria hold a service for her, and Serena commits further to her role as Serenica's successor, inheriting Veronica's power as a result. Father Benedictus later helps the party contact the goddess Cetacea at Luminary's Landing, the mountain that overlooks Arboria.

Following the defeat of Mordegon, the people of Arboria have a celebration, dedicated to Veronica's sacrifice and the success of the Luminary.

In Search of Lost Time[]

With the Luminary having destroyed Time, and ensured that Mordegon is killed before he can assume control of Erdrea, Arboria remains unharmed by the forces of the Dark One.
