Personality[]
Valeria is cold and arrogant when she is first seen, showing absolutely no mercy towards those who challenge her. However, over the course of the story, she opens up more and helps Shaka & the Hero’s Ally get to the castle where The Oracle lives to help the Hero’s Ally regain his/her normal self. Even after she begins to become less ruthless, Valeria still nonetheless continue to enjoy a good fight, however not necessarily to the death.
Beneath her cold exterior, Valeria actually cares deeply for the people under her rule, especially children. She shows leniency to those who swear loyalty to her, but not to those who do so out of convenience or to save themselves from her wrath.

Biography[]
The Maiden of Thorns and the God of Destruction[]
Valeria first appears after Pujyu unseals the entrance to the Netherworld using the Seeds of Conflict. She immediately attacks the Hero when they approach the entrance to investigate it, and after seeing them endure her first attack, unleashes a much more powerful attack, knocking them off a cliff and leaving them severely injured. Valeria declares that she and her army will conquer Astoltia, and engages in combat against Anlucia and the army of Gardlund. During the battle, Shaka, who has snuck himself into Valeria's army, sabotages them by detonating their supply wagons and forcing her army to retreat.
The Hero encounters Valeria again when they and Shaka visit the nation of Valdista in the Netherworld. She is almost immediately attacked by a survivor of a nation she and her army destroyed in the past, but he is quickly dispatched by her. After dealing with a domestic problem in Valdista in order to gain an audience with Valeria, Shaka attempts to ask her to go to Demon Mountain so that a new Great Demon King can be selected, but she refuses, saying that she does not need to become the Great Demon King to conquer the Netherworld or Astoltia.
While searching for a way to get Valeria to change her mind, Shaka and the Hero come across an orphanage that was built by Valeria. The director of the orphanage tells them of Valeria's past: 1000 years ago, the Great Demon King Nerodus invaded Astoltia, but died as a result. Without a Great Demon King to rule them, the Netherworld fell into a state of civil war. As a child at the time, Valeria saw her parents killed right in front of her, and was then forced to fight as a child soldier by a band of mercenaries alongside other orphaned children. This experience was what led Valeria to believe that power was the only thing that mattered in the world, and she dedicated herself to becoming as strong as possible until she became the ruler of Valdista after growing up.
After another attempt from Shaka to convince Valeria failed, the orphanage was struck by an eruption of demon miasma, killing everyone inside. It was revealed that the incident was engineered by Valeria's retainer Jair, who believed the children would make Valeria soft and weak, and had them killed as a threat to his ideal vision of her as an "unfeeling, merciless witch of ice". Valeria killed Jair with his own sword in a fit of rage, much to his own pleasure as he died with a smile. After burying the director and the children, she revealed that as a child, she dreamed of living in a house like the orphanage with the other child soldiers she fought alongside, who all wanted a peaceful life together, but they had all died fighting, leaving her as the lone survivor. In order to one day gain that peaceful life, she swore she would become powerful enough to destroy anyone and anything that would dare threaten that dream, and finally resolved to try and become the Great Demon King to bring an end to the constant infighting of the Netherworld.
During the final trial of Demon Mountain, Valeria chose to kill the Sanguini King of Jyadain Garden, saying that those who aren't strong enough to protect themselves and their loved ones do not deserve to live, and that the weak exist only to be devoured by the strong. This decision caused her to be rejected by the Oracle, who said that her own anger towards the world would drag everyone into an even greater hell. She then left Goda Temple, disappointed, and declaring that she will conquer the Netherworld with her own power.
War of the Netherworld[]
The Hero and Illusia encounter Valeria and her second-in-command Beltro at the miasmound in Gerhena Field near Valdista, but are ignored as they return to Valdista. After Illusia purifies the miasmound, and later quells the upsurge of demon miasma in the nation of Gora, Valeria arrives with her forces to take Illusia with them to do the same for Valdista, whether she likes it or not. Shaka and Najinn then appear to abduct her for themselves, with Shaka taunting both Valeria and the Hero to come to Farazade if they want Illusia back. Angered, Valeria immediately orders the majority of her army to begin marching on Farazade.
Sending most of Valeria's forces to Farazade left Valdista open to a surprise attack by the nation of Zexus, which was arranged as part of a joint strategy by Shaka and Duke Ojalos of Zexus. Valeria was forced to abandon her attack on Farazade in order to defend Valdista. In the battle between all three nations, Queen Elgadora of Zexus forced her son Azbar to transform into an Ancient Demon that decimated the battlefield, killing most of the Valdistan soldiers, as well as many Farazadean soldiers in an act of betrayal. Swearing vengeance, Valeria commanded her remaining troops to march on Zexus. After storming the front gates of Zexus Castle, Valeria attempted to kill Elgadora, only to be blocked by Azbar, who was turned into the Ancient Demon again. Valeria engaged the demon, but even her full power was not enough to defeat it, and she was sent flying out of the castle by the creature's beam attack, and presumed dead.
The King's Coronation[]
Valeria survived the Ancient Demon's attack and landed in the Gaussia Woodlands north of Zexus. Injured, she made her way to a spring in a cave and drank from its waters. The spring was cursed, however, and the curse turned Valeria into the thing she feared most: her weaker, younger self. She was found by the kindly residents of the nearby village of Topol, and taken in by an elderly woman. With Jair's betrayal still fresh in her mind, as well as her failure to avenge her fallen soldiers at Zexus, Valeria felt that she was no longer worthy of ruling Valdista, and decided to live out the rest of her life as a child in the village, under the name Tilia.
In order to rebuild Valdista, which had fallen into absolute anarchy in the absence of Valeria, the Hero, Illusia, and Bertro came to Topol Village in search of her. After learning about the cursed spring, as well as finding a way to undo its curse with a Fruit of Ra, the group approached Tilia at the spring, who continued to pretend being an innocent girl. But after being harassed by Bertro, she showed that even in the body of a child, she still had her immense strength when she shoved him away. Topol Village was then attacked by a group of thugs led by the Gannon Brothers, a pair of sadistic monsters that Valeria had banished from Valdista during her reign. Illusia told Tilia to return to the village while the Hero fought off the younger Gannon Brother. Back in Topol, the older Gannon Brother was about to kill the elderly woman who had been taking care of Tilia until Tilia blocked his sword with a simple frying pan. When Illusia and the Hero arrived at the village, Tilia shouted at Illusia to give her the Fruit of Ra and ate it, turning back into Valeria, then singlehandedly dispatching the older Gannon Brother as well as his entire gang, saving the village. Valeria vowed that she would send help to rebuild the village, but as she was about to leave, the villagers thanked her and said that she was welcome to return anytime. Upon returning to Valdista, Valeria immediately brought an end to the lawlessness by beating the troublemakers back into submission.
Later, after the Hero agrees to become the next Great Demon King, they return to Valdista to invite Valeria to attend their coronation. But Valeria says she will only attend under one condition: that the Hero prove their strength to her in a duel. The soldiers of Valdista gather in the castle courtyard to watch the duel, confident that Valeria will win, but after the two trade blows, they are stunned to see the Hero hold their ground against Valeria. Valeria laughs and endorses the Hero's claim to the throne on behalf of all Valdista, and agrees to attend the coronation.
However, a brief scuffle happened at the New Demon King Castle against Anlucia and her allies, who attempted to preventively strike down the new Great Demon King, not knowing of their identity as the Hero, with Valeria being equally matched with the Princess. Begrudgingly burying the hatchet with them under orders from the New Great Demon King, Valeria, together with the people from Astoltia, assisted the Hero in their attempts to stop the re-awakened Jagonuba, the true source of the never-ending struggle between Astoltia and the Netherworld. When the crisis finally ended, Valeria expressed the desire to one day have a friendly spar with Anlucia again, unsatisfied with the tie result of their last fight.

Trivia[]
- Valeria could be considered the female version of Psaro. Both have a hatred of humans, but are revered by monsters, both are the masters of their kind, both have a subordinate who later backstabs them (Aamon and Jair), both have tragic backstories, and both later help the Hero in their quest.
- Her becoming a young kid (Tila, in this case) through some strange magic is similar to Veronica from Dragon Quest XI, although she wasn't captured by monsters, rather drinking the cursed water near Topal.
- Interestingly, of the three Great Demon King candidates, Valeria is the only one who did not at some point transform into a monstrous form and needed to be defeated in order to be reverted to normal, which instead did happen to both Azbar, and later Shaka.
