Assassin's Stab is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series.

Description[]

Attacks one enemy's weak point that can sometimes kill them instantly.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[]

Only appearing in the game's HD-2D Remake, it is learned by Caradoc and Matilda after obtaining a scroll in The Dragonlord's Castle and , costing 4 MP to use once again.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[]

Only appearing in the game's HD-2D Remake, it is learned by Thieves at level 16. It costs 4 MP to use and is also used by Handsome crabs in battle.

Dragon Quest VIII[]

Making its debut, Jessica can learn this technique after allocating 22 skill points into her Knife skill tree. The rate of success is independent of the foe's resistance to whack, with a fixed 12.5% chance to work. After allocating 100 points, it is replaced by the deadlier Sudden Death technique, which deals an additional 50% more damage regardless of success and has a higher accuracy of 25%.

Dragon Quest IX[]

Acting the same as in VIII, it is learned after 58 points have been invested into the Knife skill tree. It costs 3 MP to use, and is also used by Peckerels in battle against their enemies.

Dragon Quest X[]

While appearing as an enemy only skill that is used by Scornets, Disfigurines, Dirty dolls, Nail blighters, Death scorpions, Needle rabbits, Magic Beast, Decaneedle, Hitokui Dolls, and Water evil katva, as well as Peckerels once again, it can also be learned by recruited Needlemen by investing 40 skill point into their Dirty Harry skill tree from 2.1 onwards, costing 6 MP to use. Its strength can also be increased by 50% if 50 skill points are invested into the Dirty Harry skill tree.

Dragon Quest XI[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances, it is learned by Erik after investing 16 skill points in his Daggers Character Builder, costing 5 MP to use and has a 20% chance to kill a target, but will rise to 45% if Nastier Knives is learned after investing 20 skill points. It is also used by Hellriders in battle against their enemies.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[]

The Assassin's Stab is learned by various skillsets.

  • Diminisher (100 points)
  • Assassin (75 points)
  • Huntsman (100 points)
  • Bounty Hunter (75 points)
  • Estark (58 points)
  • Cluboon III 38 points

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2/Professional[]

Assassin's Stab can no longer be learned from Diminisher, and the point requirements for Assassin and Estark have changed. It can now be learned from:

  • Assassin (85 points)
  • Estark (68 points)
  • Muspell (32 points)
  • Reaper (53 points)
  • Sagittar (58 points)

Assassin's Stab costs 8 MP and is learned through the Anaesthetist, Assassin, Cold Snapper, Dark Horse, Destroyer, Doomsayer, Irritant, Multidisciplinarian, and Slayer talents.
