The land of Astoltia is the world seen in Dragon Quest X. Created by the Goddess Luciana, it is mainly formed by six main regions, each homeland to a humanoid race and protected by one of the children of Luciana, the six patron deities and their respective subordinate Divine Beasts.
A rich and vast world full of life, ever since time immemorial, the evil Jagonuba, his evil followers and creations, as well as his family of inter-galactic conquerors, the Jia Kut Clan, have sought to conquer Astoltia for themselves, causing great strife and conflict due to their manipulations.
General Geography and History overview[]
The beginning of Astoltia, and its various races[]
The history of Astoltia began on another, far-away world, the Eternal Cradle. There, Gods, Humans, and Celestrians lived in harmony in a near-perfect society; however, one day, the Jia Kut Clan, a semi-godly race of crystalline interstellar invaders, led by the cruel Jia Red Genos, attacked the Cradle and wanted to completely drain it of the Power of Creation sustaining it after being invited by Goddess Zenesia, who resented her younger sister Goddess Luciana of being Zenus's favorite and wanted to prove to her father that she was a worthy successor of Creator Deity by defeating them. The attack was devastating, wiping out most of the Celestrian population with just a single blow; in a last ditch-effort, Zenus passed his duties and powers to the then young Goddess Luciana, who then fled across the stars with a group of survivors using Tenseikyo as a space vessel, while he sealed Zenesia away in the Waldo Region's Big Tree's Bird Cage and used the Curse of Unmaking to repel the Jia Kut Clan. During the voyage, which took many years, the humans, being too fragile to survive on their own, were progressively transformed by Luciana into Celestrians. Eventually, all the original Celestrians, recognizable from the newer generation by their halos, died out, leaving only one alive.
Finally reaching the primordial Astoltia, Luciana poured her Power of Creation over it, moulding it into a new and fertile world. She then created the first of her children, Nadraga and Eldona, who began the process of creating new sentient races to populate the world, while Luciana herself began to create powerful tools to use against the Jia Kut Clan. Unfortunately, just the night before the creation of a powerful shield that would had masked Astoltia from the Jia Kut Clan eyes's forever, one of their members sent to track the Descendants of the Cradle down, Jia Gonuba, arrived undetected in his spacecraft, being mistaken for a shooting star, crashlanding and embedding itself deep beneath the planet's surface, in a place that would later be known as Doomsday's Garden.
The world of Astoltia was eventually completed, becoming primarily divided into seven great regions, each one marked by a rich history, and by numerous kingdoms and settlements spread across their territory; of these regions, six are nowadays still easily accessible by most people:
- The continent of Orgreede, homeland of the Ogres, the creation of the patron deity Gazbaran, and originally protected by the Divine Beast Sacred Bird. The great kingdom of Gardlund was founded by the hero Lada Ghat, after his military campaign against the evil Barashna and his brethen.
- The Wenna Islands, an archipelago from which the Wetlings, and the Divine Beast Kashal originates from, both creations of the patron deity Marine. The Wenna Islands are also home to a rather large civilization of cat-like monsters, like Purrcenary, who have some turbulent history with the Wetlings. Its current biggest kingdom, Verinard, was effectively founded, after many years of hard efforts, by Linache, although, due to her untimely death, it was her sister Aria who concluded the groundwork laid by Linache.
- The land of Eltona, country of winds, from which the Elves and the Divine Beast Amakamushika are native to, All of them, alongside the sacred tree Yggdrasil that grows there, are creations of the patron deity Eldona. It's biggest kingdom is called Kamiharmui.
- The continent of Dwachakka home to the Dwarfs, creations of the patron deity Wagi alongside the Divine Beast Pachatica. While originally home of three great kingdoms, founded by the great heroes Cub, Nanna and Doltam, nowadays, only one them survive, Dolworm, the one founded by Doltam. This is because, many years after the passing of their founders, the kingdom founded by Cub was wiped out in a bloody war against the Ulbea Empire, the kingdom founded by Nanna, who in turn was later destroyed by a catastrophic volcanic eruption.
- The continent of Pukland was populated with the Poppets by the racial god Pinahet, and originally protected by another of his creation, the Divine Beast Shinalidy. Poppets have a natural attraction towards anything sweet, and as such, their land is naturally gifted with many sweet materials, even minerals. It's biggest kingdom is called Megistolis.
- And finally at the very center of Astoltia, lies the continent of Rendacia, a ring-shaped land home to the Human race, recreated, in the image of the original humans that once inhabited the Eternal Cradle, by the patron deity Grand Zenus, and protected by his Divine Beast, Tenma Falchion. It has a vast inland sea at its center, occupied in the present time only by the small Made Island and one other island with one of Rendacia's smallest but most important villages, Tenton, whose people used to belong to a great kingdom in the past. Currently, its most important kingdom is Grand Zetannia, which royal bloodline has given birth to a hero blessed by Grand Zenus ever since its inception as a kingdom with a different name.
While Humans, Poppet, Dwarves, Elves, Wetlings and Ogres are the major races that inhabit Astoltia, and as such most numerous in numbers, there are other ones that are more seldomly seen; while these include the celestial Angels, the shadowy Demons who have tried multiple times to take over the world, and of course the various Monster species, there are also other, even more reclusive races, such as Mermaids and Faeries, who only show themselves under specific circumstances.
Beside the six great regions two, relatively smaller, islands can be found amidst the outer seas of Astoltia, one being Lendor, a big port town located in the northen seas, while the other is Luckland, a massive island-wide Casino located in the southern seas.
An intercontinental railway, traversed by the so-called Ark of the Earth, lesser versions of the ancient train known as Starflight Express, connects together all other lands and major islands, skipping over only Rendacia as a stopping point, forming a ring-shaped railway around the continent: still, while lesser than the original vehicle, some remnants of divinity still linger in these earthly trains, and as such, the Arks of the Earth have mysterious powers, which include travelling through time when the need arises.
Underneath the surface of the planet, visible through certain deep cracks in the ground, courses a flow of radiant light energy; this River of Light, has been a protection for Astoltia from the demonic miasma for eons, althought it has steadily grown weaker over time, and it was eventually revealed to be the very body of Goddess Luciana, left behind after the sealing of her soul. Due to this weakening, some areas of the six continents were eventually warped by the leaking demonic miasma, such as clusters of crystalized miasma found in the underground of Dwachakka, or an entire region of Eltona's soil becoming a dark, poisoned land, home of giant, withered dark reflection of Yggdrasil.
Astoltia's topography changes very rapidly, as evidenced by a map dated five-thousand years prior the current era, which shows just how much the geography of the world was different compared to modern times, with many stretches of land and islands that not longer exists at the present time.
Like many other worlds, Astoltia possesses a moon that orbits the planet, but uniquely, Astoltia's moon has been populated by its own race of people. In two separate occasions, the People of the Moon were besieged by invaders coming from outer space, but in both occasions, the moon was saved by the most improbable of saviors, a member of the Robbin' 'ood family line,
A vast pantheon of deities[]
Aside from Luciana, her seven children, and to a lesser extent their associated Divine Beasts, many other minor deities also have extended their influence on Astoltia over the eons, some being strictly regional, some with origins unknown, and some others having specifically come to Astoltia from other worlds, either by their own means or summoned.
While most of them are benevolent at best, like Gold Nyan or the God of Vocations worshipped by Alltrades Abbey, or at worst neutral towards the people of Astoltia and their conditions, a particular subset of these extra deities, the so called clan of demon gods, are not only monstrous in nature but also have caused many miseries to the Astoltians in various ways, either intentionally or due to their alien set of morals, although never quite to the extent of Jagonuba and his foul creations. Such individuals include:
- the gigantic Bjørn, who spends most of his time sleeping submerged in the ocean near Rendacia, with his belly often mistaken for an island.
- his son Rebjørn.
- Gyra Gyra, a demonic being after which the Gyra Jungle is named and that had a hand in gving birth to Sage Marine.
- Genie Juliante, the little sister of Gyra Gyra who Mystical Juliante would later be modelled after.
- Nokturnus
- and Strezate, a demonic being that attempted to take over the world before being sealed into a stone monument by a group of heroes, after which he spent the next 1000 years spewing out of said monument a seemingly endless horde of monsters, which lead to the formation of the Guardians in order to contain said invading forces.
As a note, while the Jia Kut Clan has also been described as a race of demon gods, they do not share anything in common with these other, monstrous deities.
As each one of the seven main sentient races that inhabit Astoltia was created by one of the patron deities in their image, sometimes special individuals are born that are blessed with the power of one of said racial gods, their soul bonded with said deity, these beings being known as God Vessels. As nowadays, for various reasons, the racial gods have lost most of their powers and can no longer take an overly active role in the events of Astoltia, the God Vessels are among the last traces of their influences left; in recent history, the now corrupted racial god Nadraga, sealed away and splintered, would attempt to resurrect himself by kidnapping the current God Vessels, particularly his own God Vessel, and although he succeeded in using their powers, he was ultimately vanquished for good, making him the only racial god to be officially declared deceased.
Angels can also rarely perform a ritual of deification, elevating selected resurrected mortal souls to the status of a god. Chosen carefully through a strict selection process, these souls are often those of historic figures; even so, these elevated souls are not invicible, and can easily fade away back into the afterlife for good if all of their energies are spent.
The creation of the Netherworld, the Demons, and their ancient emnity[]
Another great land, the Netherworld, located deep underneath the earth's crust, is connected, albeit barely, to Astoltia thanks to an underground tunnel which opening is located on the Orgreede continent; the entrance of said tunnel was eventually sealed off by an Ogre mage, Gamilgo, the king of Glenn of 500 years ago, who petrified himself in order to act as a seal, only for being reopened in the present day.
The Netherworld itself was originally a vast stretch of land that was cut off from the rest of the world by Luciana in ancient times, eventually ending up placed beyond the great river of light. The reason behind said separation, was because many years after his initial arrival, Jia Gonuba eventually made himself known by beginning to use his powers to turn all life in Astoltia into minerals, the same fate that had befallen the Eternal Cradle; four sages in the service of Luciana were sent to investigate, and after witnessing the mineralization for themselves, used the power of the Goddess bestowed upon them to seal away this ability. However, when Jia Gonuba's mineralization powers were sealed, it caused his body to violently mutate, turning it into a "grotesque lump of flesh", and causing it to spew out massive quantities of a magic-infused fog that would come to be known as "demon miasma". The miasma infected and mutated everything it came into contact with, and was spreading at a rate faster than it could be contained; left with no other options, the sages begged Luciana to cut off the infected land from the rest of Astoltia to halt the spread of the miasma, thusly leading to the creation of the Netherworld. Its current inhabitants, the Demons, are essentially Astoltians that were left behind and eventually mutated by the demon miasma.
After the land was sundered, Jia Gonuba, his name now distorted into Jagonuba, created seven beings from his own body and power, known as the Dark Deities, and sent them to Astoltia to destroy it. Each one waged war against one of Luciana's children, the seven racial gods, and the land was devastated until Luciana herself defeated the Dark Deities and sealed them away in shrines across Astoltia, although, many millennia later, one of them would escape during a great disaster caused by the demon Razerburn, and begin to manipulate things behind the scenes.
After the Dark Deities' defeat, Jagonuba himself invaded Astoltia and engaged Luciana in battle, a fight that would last for thousands of years. Sensing the collapse of the world if the fight were to continue, Luciana used her final resort: a powerful curse that would separate Jagonuba's soul from his body, but also do the same to her as well. Jagonuba's body was sealed away in the Temple of Jagonuba, inside Demon Mountain, the tallest peak in the Netherworld, while his soul was sealed inside the body of a human named Nalasia, who was in turn sealed inside a statue of the Goddess inside Rufa Temple, located within the River of Light, the remains of Luciana's own body. Meanwhile, Luciana's soul was instead sealed in the twin sister of Nalasia, Illusia, while her body transformed into the underground great River of Light, further shielding Astoltia from the demonic miasma; at this point, the ancient sages that aided Luciana in her battles against the Dark Deities and Jagonuba, retired from the rest of the world in their hidden settlement in the wilderness of Pukland.
As the millennia went on, not only the River of Light grew weaker, but also Jagonuba's slumbering body continued to produce demon miasma, fueled by the anger and grudges of the demons living in the Netherworld. A demon by the name of Goda noticed this, and sealed the entrance to the Temple of Jagonuba by constructing Goda Temple on top of it. He then charged his son, Jyadain, with guarding the temple, as he led an army of demons in their first invasion of Astoltia, to prevent their negative emotions from agitating Jagonuba's body and producing more demon miasma. Goda became known as the first Great Demon King, and Jyadain would become the Oracle, the mediator between future Great Demon Kings and Jagonuba, granting the former the latter's power and encouraging them to invade Astoltia to continue relieving the pressure in the Netherworld. However, Jagonuba's corruption soon distorted the original meaning of the invasions, which became more and more violent. As a result, the Demons tried multiple times across history to invade and take over the world for themselves, which shaped many events of the mortal history of Astoltia, albeit these invasions were always stopped by the appearance of an heroic duo, the Hero and Ally, whose powers came from Grand Zenus himself, destined to stop the Great Demon King's plan.
While there are various smaller kingdoms, in the Netherworld there are currently three major kingdoms, far bigger and powerful than the others:
- the militant fortress kingdom of Valdista
- the ancient and magic-oriented kingdom of Zexus
- and the youngest of the three, the trading desert kingdom of Farazade
A place of great significance is the Jadine Garden, an idyllic place created by the Demon Oracle, one of the most important figures of the Netherworld. Another significant location are the former Great Demon King Maldragora's massive personal palace, which extends several miles due to its many quirky features, and the ruined Necrodea Castle, once capital of a kindom destroyed by General Zobris.
Eventually, in recent history, while Jagonuba was finally able to escape his confinement and reunite with his body, thanks to the actions of the current Great Demon King, not only the Great Source of Darkness was destroyed for good, although sadly at the cost of Luciana's life, but the Demons were able to make peace with the rest of Astoltia, slowly beginning to form pacific relations.
The sealing of Nagaland[]
In the past, a seventh great region, the floating continent of Nagaland could be found in Astoltia; however, many years after Luciana's sacrifice, but before the start of the periodic demonic invasions, the patron deity Nadraga, the first-born son of Luciana, made a terrible mistake: with his beloved mother no longer present to keep his pride in check, Nadraga became convinced that the race of people created by him, the Dragons, being overall stronger than the other six major races, should by default had been given the right to reign Astoltia. When his request was objected and denied by his family, Nadraga let his anger go to his head, and attacked the continent of Rendacia, jealous of the love Luciana had for Grand Zenus and the humans. The other patron deities united and defeated Nadraga, but the latter, unwilling to admit defeat took the terrible decision to foolishly betrayed the rest of the world by allying himself with Luciana's mortal enemy Jagonuba, ending up being irredimably corrupted by his demonic miasma. After long millennia of battles, which ended up with Eldona, Gazbaran, Marine, Wagi and Pinahet to lose their bodies, Grand Zenus, standing alone against Nadraga, used a sword forged with the spirit of his lost siblings to strike his eldest brother, casting him alongside the land of the Dragons into an empty pocket space, the exausted Grand Zenus falling into a deep, seemingly never-ending slumber following the battle.
These are the events that resulted in the floating continent of Nagaland, alongside the vast majority of its native people into being banished to the pocket dimension known as the Void of Condemnation, as well for the disappearence of the partron deities from the world.
Furthermore, in order to seal Nadraga and contain the deity gone rogue, Nagaland itself had to be split into five different regions, floating across the void-like space of the dimension, which caused each of them to be enveloped in a different out-of-control element, with furthermore the passage towards a different realm being blocked by five, great towers containing riddles and tests:
- the fire flagelled Flame Realm
- the frozen Ice Realm
- the Dark Realm shrouded in perpetual night
- the submerged Water Realm
- and the wind-swept Storm Realm
Most of the world's divine beasts were also sealed alongside Nagaland, left to guard the seal on Nadraga and to ensure the survival of the now trapped and separated Dragons in the various Realms, leaving only Tenma Falchion on Astoltia; Kashal in particular assisted the Dragons of the flooded Water Realm, by giving them all the ability to survive underwater. As for the Dragon's own Divine Beast, Prify, she was created by Nadraga as his last benevolent act shortly after his betrayal, having realized that the demonic miasma given to him by Jagonuba would eventually corrupt him, and possibly destroy Nagaland should he ever be defeated. As such, Prify was left sleeping for many eons in Nagaland, waiting for the moment when she would need to awaken in order to absorb the released miasma and neutralize it.
Meanwhile, the few Dragons that were not present on Nagaland when it was sealed away, gathered together and founded a hidden village in Rendacia's wilderness, only seldomly showing themselves to the outside world; unfortunately, due to being isolated for so long, their birth rate began to slowly decline, eventually leaving the village to being populated by mostly elderly people. This lead Crow, the grandson of the village chief and one of the last young men of the settlement, to venture in the outside world in order to find a way to re-connect with the Dragons lost in the Void of Condemnation and save his people from extinction; while during his journey, Crow himself perished under unknown circumstances, his body was then inhabitated by the soul of Singh of Tenton village, who sought to honor Crow's wishes, something that he eventually succeeded to accomplish.
Eventually the seal of the gate to the pocket dimension was broken, and after Nadraga, alongside the secretly malevolent cult worshipping him, were defeated for good, relations between Nagaland and the rest of Astoltia began anew, albeit slowly due to the Dragons needing to first resolve the many issues plaguing their homeland, the now reformed Cult of Nadraga, now renamed the Nagaland Association, spearheading the reunification efforts; nevertheless, some Dragons began to move back in Astoltia.
The consequences of the manipulation of time[]
One of the major topological differences from present day Astoltia, was the presence, 5000 years ago, of a big isle amidst the inland sea of Rendacia, the Great Etene Island, which once stood next to the much smaller Made Island, and the island later known as Tenton Island.
The people of the Great Etene Island were known for their uncanny alchemical prowess and ability to manipulate time, due to their ancestors having unjustly stolen this power from the peaceful alien creature Kyurex. Eventually, the stolen time power became a malevolent being named Kyronos who, desiring to become a deity of time and wipe out all life, began travelling through the timeline to gather power. While he, as well as the various people who, with their sometimes questionably amoral actions, tried to stop him, did cause several temporal paradoxes all across various time periods of the history of Astoltia, Kyronos was nevertheless eventually stopped, and Kyururu became one with the flow of time of Astoltia.
However, the reckless manipulation of time done by the people of Etene, combined with the chaos produced by Kyronos, resulted in the prosperous kingdom being threated by an unstoppable catastrophic impact of a giant meteor; in order to save the kingdom, the island was ultimately transported ahead into the future by its Princess, Mereade.
Meanwhile, some of Etene's survivors, who were not transported forward in time with the rest of the island, instead fled to the other island of Rendacia's inland sea during the disaster, founding the small village of Tenton. For these survivors, over time the power of time became weaker and weaker with each generation, eventually becoming something only spoken in legend, while alchemy remained their pride and joy. One day, in this very same village, the child of Padre, the younger brother of Great Etene's last king, would appear out of nowhere due to one of the many time anomalies caused by the abuse of such power. Here, they would be raised by kind foster parents alongside another child as siblings, and both of them would later play major roles in the shaping of Astoltia's history, including, but not limited to, stopping Kyronos.
The Hero's sibling in particular, which was eventually accidentally cursed by the Hero with a time-travelling curse during Tenton's destruction by the hands of Nelgel, would end up jumping through several time periods of the past and being responsible for several alterations and paradoxes of time as, by using their alchemical prowess to help the people in need they met, they would end up becoming a Legendary Alchemist without compare, creating several masterpieces of alchemy all across Astoltian history and territories that left a profund impact.
Eventually, in recent history, five-thousand years after the great disaster, the Great Etene Island, its kingdom, and its inhabitants reappeared back in the current era, and they began being involved with the affairs of the modern world once more.
Miscellaneous historic events[]
After the loss of the Netherworld, Nagaland, and the Great Etene Kingdom, many more historic, but by comparison, lesser events shook Astoltia in both minor and major ways, such as, in not a particular order, the bloody history behind the founding of Grand Zetannia, the destruction of two out three dwarven kingdoms, the rise of the menace known as the King of Calamity, the corruption of an ogre king in Demon Zongaron, the attack of Tyrant Basagrande on the Wenna islands, the demonic invasion of Nerodus, the rampage of Razerburn and his soul-sucking false sun, Tenma Falchion losing his strength and being forced to take his Galapagod form while recuperating, the attack of Strezate and the formation of the Guardians, and many, many, many others.
The illusory False Rendacia[]
Eventually, during one of the many demonic invasions of Astoltia, Maldragora the Worldbreaker, at the time Great Demon King, formulated a plan that went much further than just conquer Astoltia, instead he wanted to re-create the world and substitute it with a fake copy made according to his will, starting with Rendacia. To do so, he firstly allied himself with Nelgel, The Netherlord, an artifical, powerful, malicious demon that was created as a result of Razerburn's ritual as an attempt to bypass the appearance of an heroic duo by birthing a Great Demon King on Astoltia, although he emerged with 500 years of delay. Maldragora gave Nelgel the power necessary to destroy the village of Tenton, as the Netherlord feared their power to manipulate time, and in exchange he cloaked Rendacia in a veil of darkness, the Mysts of Confusion. While the forces of Nelgel began to stir trouble in the world outside the Mysts, either directly or by allowing the reawakening of ancient evils, Maldragora began his own invasion of Rendacia, his Demon Marshal Zerudorado leading the charge, while he started to create his copy of Rendacia, meant to one day erode the real one and take its place.
Having been created by tapping into Luciana's very Power of Creation, this semi-illusory copy of Rendacia survived its creator's defeat, albeit barely, and it still remained connected to Astoltia, effectively becoming yet another pocket dimension; eventually, False Rendacia was judged by the Angels of being worthy of continuing existing. The differences between the two version of Rendacia are sublte but evident, such as the apparent lack of a copy of Made isle in the illusory one; furthrmore, because Maldragora lacked inspiration at the time, and was slain before he could reasume, several locations of False Rendacia remained "Unfinished". Maldragora's actions left many repercussions both on Astoltia and the Netherworld, one of which was the aforementioned lifting of the seal on the Abyss Gate for Nagaland, as Maldragora wanted to steal the Power of Creation stored within the gate.
Furthermore, Maldragora's invasion, just like all previous demonic invasions had, lead to the awakening of the powers of two mighty warriors of justice: Princess Anlucia of Grand Zetannia, the Hero, awakened during Demon Marshal Zerudorado's attack on her castle. Meanwhile, most importantly, her Ally also awakened, an heroic figure from the small village of Tenton, who was barely able to avoid an early demise during Nelgel's attack; this individual, whose origins were in truth deeply rooted in the messing of time caused by the people of Great Etene, would soon become the key leading figure of the defence of Astoltia, a champion of justice that resolved several crysis, both minor and major, all across the continents of Astoltia, with lofty achievements such as:
- saved the moon alongside Robbin' 'ood
- thwarted Nelgel's grip on Rendacia and Maldragora's invasion
- destroyed Nadraga and his cult for good
- rebuilt the destroyed Tenton
- stopped Kyronos from destroying time
- convinced the Celestrians to spare the False Rendacia from destruction
- put an end to Jagonuba and the neverending conflict with the Netherworld after ascending as the new Great Demon King
- aided the Celestrians against the returned Jia Kut Clan
- spearheaded an exploration team of a whole other world.
And many others.
There is a slight time distortion between the rest of Astoltia and False Rendacia, with the latter being in the past compared to Astoltia; as a result of such gap, some slight paradoxes occurred. The most important one of such paradoxes was when the Hero, who at the time had just reincarnated as a member of one of the other races, were saved from the forces of evil by a mysterious, mightily bright light shooting into the sky originating far-away from the dome of darkness surrounding Rendacia; this light was later revealed to having been the awakening of Princess Anlucia as the Hero, an awakening that the Hero from Tenton had brought forward themselves when they visited the False Rendacia and restored Anlucia's missing memories, meaning that, in a way, the survivor of Tenton had paradoxically saved themselves with their actions.
The ancient home of the Angels[]
The ancient Tenseikyo, the homeland of the Celestrian race used to reach Astoltia in the Mythical Age, still exist as another floating continent, usually hidden by magic from the eyes of the mortal races. Tenseikyo is mainly composed by five separate major floating islands that surround its biggest city, Fourion, located on its own floating land, and due to the large buildings spreaded across all the islands, to the people located to the lower Astoltia, the few times they are able to see it, it gives the impression of being a single, giant floating city, while in truth there are some area of wilderness on Tenseikyo, these being:
- the White ash testing ground
- the Golden testing ground
- the heavily forested Deep green testing ground
- and the Deep blue testing ground
Interstingly, one of its smaller floating islands was actually originally a small part of Nagaland, before it was moved by the Celestrians. At some point in the past, one of the original floating islands of Tenseikyo, for unknown reasons plummeted to the surface world below, becoming a fairly unknown island in the open sea just northwest of Rendacia's coast. This isle contains a monolith, inside of which the eternal souls of deceased Celestrians were laid to rest in the past, before their circle of reincarnation was established, after which the monolith became unused. While depleted, the energy core of isle necessary for floating was still fairly powerful, and was later retrieved to power up the Starflight Express.
The ruins of the Celestrians previous capital city, buried deep beneath the new Fourion, are still tainted to this day with the evil red mist of the catastrophic invasion of the Eternal Cradle from the Jia Kut Clan.
This red mist would eventually corrupt some Celestrians, who began plotting a chain of events that eventually caused the destruction of the shield masking Astoltia's existence, and the Jia Kut Clan to once again find the descendants of the Cradle, re-igniting the ancient conflict once more. As part of this scheme, several heroic resurrected souls, which were candidates selected by the Celestrians across the ages to receive the deification process, were corrupted by evil; due to this, many of them created mini-pocket dimensions in certain locations, the insides of these spaces being memory fragments of the heroes's most traumatic memories, their "heart" so to speak, that could be freely navigated. Even when the heroes of ages past were purified, and later completely passed in the afterlife, these mini alternate spaces still remained accessible for those who knew how to enter them.
During the war against the Jia Kut, a massive invasion ship was embedded into the ground of Astoltia like a tower, spreading several giant Jia Kut Telecrystals on the surrounding ground. After many trials, tribulations, and the sacrifice of many allies, the invasion was stopped, and the Jia Kut Clan, alongside its evil overlord Jia Red Genos, were wiped out completely, never to endanger another world again, although the modified monsters that they had in their servitude still stalked around the invasion ship-turned tower.
Possible future?[]
While travelling through different time periods in order to stop the rampage of Kyronos, the Hero, accompanied by Kyururu, eventually visited the mysterious space colony Arween. Set around one-thousand years into the future, this space colony, constructed by the Poppet race, is the last known remnant of Astoltia as, in this dark possible future, the planet was completely destroyed, forcing its few survivors to flee into space. While it is unknown if this is the predestined future of Astoltia, or if it is just one of the many possible outcomes, the Hero, after they resolved the disarray caused by the rogue Puclas, could nevertheless chose to return to this time period even to later dates thanks to the Time-Trotter's Trinket, an time-compass from the Etene Kingdom. An even further future is the Scenery of the end, the apocalyptic future where Kyronos had managed to end all life; thanks to his ultimate defeat however, this time period was erased from history, never to come to fruition, although once again, the Time-Trotter's Trinket can be used to travel there.
Zenias, the land of Ends[]
One day, shortly after the threat of the Jia Kut Clan had been stopped once and for all, during the unveiling ceremony held to reintroduce the Great Etene Island back into the present day politics of the world, for reasons unknown many people from Astoltia began disappearing one by one, completely forgotten by their friends and family as if they had never existed at all, including the Hero's biological mother, Marone.
Having assisted powerless to the disappearance, the Hero was then approached by a mysterious magician named Porte, who gave them the means to reach a different world named Zenias though a teleportation device left behind by the Jia Kut clan, in order to discover the causes behind the disappearences. Thusly, an Astoltian exploration party, the Ember Explorers, composed by many important figures, was formed to explore the strange new land.
The mysterious phenomenom was quickly explained by Porte to be the Curse of Unmaking, a curse that slowly saps the Power of Creation, erasing for existence both objects and people; Porte was sent by her master to explore Zenias, the source of the Curse, in order to find a a way to save Astoltia from this affliction. It would late become clear that, when the Astoltians finally defeated the Jia Kut Clan once and for all, wiping them out, the Curse of Unmaking, which originally was affecting them, transferred to Astoltia itself; now, not one but two worlds, both Astoltia and Zenias, were under the threat of being completely erased.
