Avan's party

Avan's party is the name given to the group composed by the young Avan and his companions in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai and in the Avan the Hero and the Hellfire Dark Lord.

When fifteen years ago, the at the time Dark Lord, the Darkling Hadlar, attempted to conquer the surface with his own Dark Army, Avan and his best friend Roka began a journey from their home kingdom of Carl to put a stop to him, eventually meeting loyal companions that assisted them in the task.

Avan- A young hero who was a descendant of a noble scholar family of the kingdom of Carl, Avan is an incredibly talented man, both in intelligence and in the art of the swordplay and magic, although he usually hides said talents under a silly personality. After Hadlar launched an attack on Carl's castle, attempting to harm its princess Flora, Avan's friend and eventual love interested, he standed against him, revealing his talents, and setting out with Roka on a journey against Hadlar and his forces. During his voyage, he developed the Earth slash against Kigiro, the Wave slash against the Mermaid Princess Otogili, the Air slash against the resurrected Kigiro and finally the completed form of his signature attack, the Avan Strash. He attempted to end the conflict with Hadlar by using the spell of time-freezing during the eclipse, but when a year and half later the spell was undone, Avan and his party took the fight directly to Hadlar's Undergound Palace.
Roka- The young guard of Carl's knights and Avan's best friend, Roka was a likewise strong swordsman, who began travelling with Avan when he began his quest. Eventually falling in love with Leira and having a child with her, Maam, Roka is sadly the only member of the party that did not survive the final battle against the forces of Hadlar, as the battle where he slain Demon Woodman Kigiro for good but also inflicted a mortal curse on him.
Leira- A young priestess from Nayle Village, Leira had also an outstanding talent as a rogue, being stealthy, agile, and skilled with knifes. Meeting Avan and Roka in the Dark Forest, she assisted them against its monsters and Kigiro himself, eventually choosing to follow them in their journey and falling in love with Roka, marrying him and conceiving a daughter together.
Brokeena-The so called "God of Martial Arts", Brookena was a laid-back old master, famous for his most destructive technique, the Refractor Fist; meeting the group in the Dark Forest when Avan and Roka sought his consul, Brokeena preferred to not overly support the group nor to travel with them, directly assisting only in discreetely finishing off the gigantic Chewlip of the Dark Forest, and when Avan attempted to time-freeze Hadlar, as the hero had asked both Roka and Leira to not participate in said battle, as the latter was pregnant.
Matoriv-A powerful but without a shred of shame Grand Sorcerer, Matoriv was found by Roka while the group was travelling near an ancient magical library; having been careless due to his perviness, Matoriv had been trapped inside a magical book for decades, so upon meeting him, he asked Roka for aid in recovering his body. There the group was assulted by the minions of Gangadia, as well as by the Death Troll himself, with Matoriv earning an enmity, then a rivalry and eventually an admiration from Gangadia himself thanks to his outstanding magical talent and cleverness. Ever since their first meeting, Matoriv has been a loyal friend to the rest of the party, particularly Roka and Avan, assisting them in every way he could, and even shaving off many years of his own lifespan when attempting to find a cure for the time-frozen Avan.

With the exceptions for the deceased Roka, and the retired Leira, all other members of the party would fifteen years later assist the Disciples of Avan, particularly during their last, epic fight against Dark King Vearn.
