Axes of Evil is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series.
Description[]
Hits a group of enemies with a vortex formed by a powerful swing.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest VIII[]
Making its main series debut, Yangus can learn it after allocating 54 skill points into the Axe skill tree. This skill possess a wind attribute, making it impractical to use against certain enemies. It is affected by Yangus' tension, however, allowing it to overcome any enemy resistance with sufficient level. Damage is calculated as a whip strike, with each blow dealing less as more enemies are struck.
- In the 3DS port, the skill now costs 2 MP.
Dragon Quest IX[]
Learned with 88 skill points invested into the Axe skill tree, it acts the same as in VIII, but becomes a non-elemental attack from this game onwards. It costs 0 MP to use to once again.
Dragon Quest X[]
Learned by investing 100 skill points into the Axe skill tree, it acts the same as in IX, though its MP cost has varied from the game's history, starting with 8 MP (When the game first came out), to 6 MP (From Version 2 onwards), to 15 MP (From 2.1 onwards), before reverting back to 8 MP from 5.3 onwards. It can also be learned by recruited Hacksauruses and Hellbound horrors with 40 skill points invested into their own Axe skill tree, though it was replaced with Carvin' Carnival prior to the latter half of 3.1 onwards. It is also used by Hippo kings, Rhinocerexes, Rhinothropes gone Vicious, Hippo Sardon, and Hippokin. In the Offline version of the game, it is learned by investing 9 skill points into the Hero and Hussar's Axe Character Builders, when the former is either in the Warrior and/or Ranger vocations.
Dragon Quest XI[]
Hendrik learns this skill with 20 skill points invested into his Axe Character Builder. It costs 16 MP to use, and deals 2.2 times more damage to a group of enemies than normal attacks without attenuation. The ability can be used with the Luminary's Zapple spell for the Thunder Sunderer Pep Power.
Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes II[]
Appearing as Yangus's Coup de Grâce, he creates a vortex with his axe that damages all enemies in range while Healix is swept up in it.
Dragon Quest Tact[]
Learned by Yangus at level 52, it damages all enemies around him and costs 56 MP to use.
