Block is a supporting antagonist in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. He is member of Hadlar's orichalcum Royal Guard created using forbidden magic.

Appearance[]

His humanoid appearance is shaped like a massive man with shield like shoulder pads, a brick layer pattern across the stomach. His head is shaped like a frog-mouth helm.

His true form nesting inside his massive armor, is that of an average sized adult Orichalcum male with slim arms. He has spikes on his shoulders and on the sideways near his hips.

Personality[]

Everyone...Look after...Lord Hadlar
Block's first and final words

Out of all of Hadlar's Royal Guard, Block is the quietest of the group, muttering absolutely no words for the majority of his appearance in both the manga and anime. Despite his seemingly lack of communicatorial skill, Block possesses sufficient awareness to act like any normal person. In fact, contrasting with his verbal silence is his sense of cooperation which is by far the greatest of the group as he has no qualms with literally using his own body as a shield to protect his teammates from harm, despite incurring in massive damage himself. This self-sacrificing nature is later demonstrated when he saved both Hadlar and his comrades from a perilous situation at the cost of his own life. Contrary to what one could think of a fighter of brute strength like him, Block has proven himself a quick thinker, capable of coming with effective responses in the spur of the moment, such as burying himself and the rest of the guard in order to cover them from Popp's Medroa spell which would have otherwise evaporated all of them on the spot, although nearly disintegrating himself in the process.

Abilities[]

As an entity made of Orichalcum, Block is nigh immune to most forms of damage, leaving very few methods available to hurt him. As the Rook of the group, Block possesses extreme offensive power, and has the highest physical strength of the group, being capable of lifting an enormous ship by himself and throw it like nothing. His physical strength is so extreme he could even overpower Crocodine who is known for his titanic strength. Although the two clashed equally in a contest of strength, it is likely that Block's constitution might have given him an edge. Conversely, and as his massive build evidences, speed is not his forte, and struggles against faster adversaries.

Like the Chess Rook, Block hides within him the power of Castling: by opening the massive outer layer he is best known for, his much slimmer and smaller self comes out. Using himself as a medium he is able to create a powerful magic barrier that both protects his allies and puts them into safety by teleporting them away. This technique, however is a desperation move meant to be used for escaping in a critical moment, as it costs Block his life.
