Story[]
After leaving the Heights of Loneliness, the hero reaches Bloomingdale, a large town in a region of the same name. You're here for a ship, which would allow you to explore the world easier.
You soon reach the manor of Marion Bloome, where she has company; when you talk to her and ask her for the ship, she recognizes you as a Celestrian and runs off. Everyone leaves, forcing you to make Marion come out of her room. The hero heads to Marion's childhood nanny and asks her for help, who then guides you to the doll maker, Randolph - one of the few people Marion still cares for, as he gifted her Marionette, her closest friend, a doll she has deeply cherished since childhood.
You return with him to Marion's room and knock on the door, but she's nowhere to be found. She has been kidnapped by F.I.C.K.O., a band of thieves who had heard of her wealth and took her to their hideout - the Bad Cave - demanding ransom. After Randolph announces that Marion has been kidnapped, a ghost that looks like Marion leads you through a previously locked door in her bedroom. You see it's some type of cemetery. The ghost says she is the true Marion Bloome, and the girl who has been kidnapped is really her beloved doll, Marionette.
She explains that she used to be a horridly sickly girl, and not long ago one of the servants brought her a fruit that was thought to heal all ills. She had her doll, Marionette, share it with her - but rather than healing Marion, the fruit made Marionette come to life. Marion, who at that point was deteriorating rapidly, gave everything to Marionette and told her to make many friends as she could not. She laments that she has to leave so soon after Marionette was brought to life, explains that "the celestrians are coming for her", and dies shortly after. Since then, the townspeople, oblivious of the doll taking Marion's place, believe that the fruit cured her. Marionette had been giving out the wealth that was left to her in order to make friends, as Marion had asked of her; never seeing that those "friends" were just using her for her money. The ghost of Marion says that we need to rescue her "one true friend", as she never wished for Marionette to be taken advantage of like this.
The hero goes to the Bad Cave, where the kidnappers ask you for the ransom for Marionette, promising her safety in return for the gold - however, she (again) has disappeared.
In pursuit of Marionette, you head to the deepest part of the cave; upon finding her, she is surprised you know her real name. Before you're able to rescue her, the Tyrantula appears. Marionette, being largely unaware of danger of any kind, thinks she is a friend despite being "odd-looking" - after which she is struck down, and becomes unresponsive. You engage Tyrantula in battle; upon defeat, F.I.C.K.O. makes an appearance and Marionette is assumed dead - they are shocked when she stands again despite not breathing and after they flee, the ghost of Marion appears and tells Marionette that she shouldn't try to live as her anymore.
When you return to Bloomingdale, you find out Marionette told everyone she was going away to travel, but you find her, returned to being a doll, in the secret cemetery. Marion's voice thanks you, and the hero receives a Fygg. After that, Marion's nanny comes and takes Marionette back to the bedroom. Upon going to the harbor, the ship warden tells you that The Pride of Bloomingdale, Marion's ship, has been left to you. You are now free to sail the protectorate.

Trivia[]
- A "dale" is another word for a valley, and the name "Bloomingdale" is likely in reference to how open and flowery the region is.
- F.I.C.K.O. is similar phonetically to "thicko" which is an insult meaning unintelligent. This reflects the slapdash nature of the organization.
