Biography[]

Origin[]

A long time ago, Zenus the Almighty One was enraged by the sins of mortals and decided to destroy them. However, Celestria, Zenus's daughter, believed that there is goodness among the mortals, and begged Zenus not to destroy them. Celestria transformed herself into Yggdrasil, the world tree, and vowed that she will not return to her true form until she is proven to be correct. Zenus, while sighed about her determination, created the Observatory and a new life kind to watch over the mortalkind that lived in the Protectorate, and offer the Benevolessence to the Yggdrasil. Zenus named the new life kind "Celestrians" after his daughter, Celestria.

Daily Life and Purpose[]

Celestrians live high above the Protectorate in the Observatory. Their duty is to protect their assigned village and they cannot be seen by normal humans. However, normal animals like dogs can, and Celestrians can also see ghosts and spirits. Celestrians guard the people below in return for Benevolessence, which is needed for the Yggdrasil tree to blossom. Celestrians were created by the Almighty One to help his daughter, Celestria, prove that mortals have goodness in their hearts. The Celestrians believe that once the Fyggs bloom, the Starflight Express will come take them to Realm of the Almighty.

The New Apprentice and Disaster in Fyygbloom[]

The game starts with the Hero, a new Celestrian, working under Aqulia in helping his duties of Angel Falls's mortals and collecting their Benevolessence. Some Celestrians are seen talking about Fyygbloom and their excitement in meeting the Almighty in his realm. Just when the Hero, Aquila, and Apus Major, the leader of the Celestrians, were about to board the Starlight Express, a dark beam attacked the Observatory, causing the Fyggs and Starflight Express to fall, as well as the Hero, who falls to the world below and becomes a mortal, losing their wings and halo in the process.

Rounded up by the Gittish Empire[]

While the Hero was working on helping the mortals of the Protectorate and collecting Benevolessence to revive the Starlight Express, the Celestrians went down to the Protectorate to try and find the Fyggs that were scattered around the realm, but were captured by soldiers from the Gittish Empire, an evil kingdom from 300 years ago who had captured one of their own and now sought to find the Fyggs for their leader, King Godwyn, to rule the world with. Usually, they would've been invisible, but the Gittish soldiers capturing them were able to see them just fine due to being monsters. The Celestrians that were captured had their energy drained in the Gortress and Gittingham Palace's Oubliette to strengthen the Empire as well Barbarus, their Dark Dragon and powerful ally.

Betrayal, Freedom, and the Starry Skies[]

The Celestrians were betrayed by Aquila, who had taken the Fyggs from the Hero and was allied with the Gittish Empire in their schemes. Unbeknownst to the Hero, the Celestrians, and the Gittish Empire, however, Aquila was actually a double agent and had given the Fyggs back to Apus Major, while taking fake Fyggs to King Godwyn and slay him, since he was holding Corvus as his prisoner. Unfortunately, Godwyn wounded Aquila and the task fell to the Hero, who had just defeated Goresby-Purrvis of the Triumgorate and also freed both human prisoners and Celestrians from the Gortress prior. The two fight, with Godwyn turning into a monster, though he is defeated and Aquila praises the Hero for coming so far and admits he regrets betraying them. Before Aquila could praise his apprentice further, Godwyn gets up and tries to kill the Hero in a fit of rage, but is slain by Aquila, though he also dies, but not before urging the Hero to free the rest of the Celestrians and his teacher. While the Celestrians held captive in the Oubliette were freed, the Celestrians as a whole were betrayed by Corvus, who not only attacked the Observatory, as well as the Realm of the Almighty, but was also behind the Gittish Empire's revival. Corvus attacks and defeats the Hero, before calling for Barbarus to invade the Realm of the Almighty with him, turning it into the Realm of the Mighty, which serves as the game's final dungeon. After the Hero becomes mortal in order to fight Corvus and defeats him twice, as well as Barbarus, his lover Serena calms him down and they ascend into the night sky together, as well as the other Celestrians, expect for Pavo. The Hero eventually regains their celestial powers after eating a new Fygg.

Dragon Quest X[]

Biography[]

The Celestrians in this game are a race in Astoltia living in the mysterious floating islands of Tenseikyo.

Origins[]

Years after the events of Dragon Quest IX, Celestrians, Gods, and Humans lived in harmony in a near-perfect society called the Eternal Cradle, while the stories of the previous game became part of the history books, such as Two Angels, which detailed the battle between the Hero and Corvus. However, one day, the Jia Kut Clan, a semi-godly race of crystalline interstellar invaders, led by the cruel Jia Red Genos, attacked the Cradle after being invited in by Goddess Zenesia, who resented her sister Goddess Luciana and wanted to prove she was worthy of being Zenus's heir of Creator Deity by defeating them. Despite losing one soldier, the Clan returned with a full invasion force and tried to drain all of the Power of Creation sustaining the Eternal Cradle completely, resulting in a devastating attack that wiped out most of the Celestrian population with just a single blow. In a last ditch-effort, Zenus the Great Architect passed his duties and powers to Luciana, who then fled across the stars with a group of survivors using Tenseikyo as a space vessel while Zenus sealed Zenesia away in the Waldo Region's Big Tree's Bird Cage for her sins of aiding their enemy in the hopes she would repent.

During the voyage, which took many years, the humans, being too fragile to survive on their own during the harsh journey across the stars, were progressively transformed by Luciana into Celestrians. Eventually, all the original Celestrians, recognizable from the newer generation by their halo, which they lack, died out, leaving only one alive.

Finally reaching the primordial Astoltia, Luciana poured her Power of Creation over it, moulding it into a new and fertile world. She then created the first of her children, Nadraga and Eldona, who began the process of creating new sentient races to populate the world, while Luciana herself began to create powerful tools to use against the Jia Kut Clan. Unfortunately, the creation of the Shield of Astoltia required the holy power contained in an Celestrian's halo, which depletion meant the death of said individual, leading to Lectalys needing to sacrifice her life in order to protect the world; in honor of said selfless act, the companion tool of the Shield of Astoltia, a holy sword, was named Divine Sword Lectalys after her.

Lectalys's strong will to see the Hero again, who had time-travelled to the mythical age of Astoltia from the present day, lead to her spirit to refuse to rest inside the holy monolith meant as the burial ground of the Celestrians, choosing instead to reincarnate. Inspired by said act, Nadraga asked the other souls resting in the monolith if they wanted to do the same, after which all of them followed through. Thusly, a new cycle of reincarnation began for the Celestrian race: instead of giving birth to new offsprings, older Celestrians would from that day forward instead take care as surrogate parents of the reincarnated souls of other Celestrians, birthed from special flowers.

Unfortunately, just the night before the creation of the Shield of Astoltia, that would had masked planet from the Jia Kut Clan's eyes forever, one of their members sent to track the Descendants of the Cradle down, Jia Gonuba, arrived in his spacecraft, being mistaken for a shooting star, crashlanding and embedding itself deep beneath the planet's surface. In the many millennia of following conflict between Luciana and her children against the invader, now named Jagonuba, and his evil creations, the Celestrians loyally assisted the creator goddess and the patron deities, although they were devastated by Luciana's sacrifice.

In the millennia after the war was seemingly over, the Celestrians began monitoring the world, selecting certain heroic souls to retrieve after death, in order for them to undergo a deification process. Unfortunately, the ruins of the Celestrians' previous capital city, buried deep beneath the new Fourion, were still tainted with the evil red mist of the catastrophic invasion of the Eternal Cradle from the Jia Kut Clan.

This red mist would eventually corrupt some Celestrians, who began plotting a chain of events that eventually caused the destruction of the shield masking Astoltia's existence, and the Jia Kut Clan to once again find the descendants of the Cradle, re-igniting the ancient conflict once more. As part of this scheme, several of the chosen heroic resurrected souls, were corrupted by evil after a sabotage of the deification process.

Meanwhile, the corrupted Celestrians also began to spread rumors against the Hero, which took root among other Celestrians due to they having obtained the title of Great Demon King and their accidental role in Luciana's ultimate demise. Still, when the Jia Kut attacked once again, the Celestrians had to put aside their uneasiness, and together, they eventually succeeded to wiping out the ancient enemy for good.

However, a Curse from the Great Architect, the Curse of Lost Creation, began erasing people from the memories of others, prompting a group called the Ember Explorers to investigate the Eternal Cradle.

Celestrian Names[]

55506 ALL celestrian - Version 2

The Hero by the waterfall in Angel Falls.

All English names of the Celestrians (except Hero/Heroine) use a name of a constellation that symbolizes a bird. Most likely due to their avian nature and because they become stars in the sky when their task is complete.

Trivia[]

  • Celestrian is derived from the word "celestial", which comes from the latin caelestis, which means "heaven" or "sky". Celestial, in the English language, can mean "ethereal" or "otherworldy".
    • Additionally, the word Empyrean shares similarities with this word's meanings.
  • An Action Replay code for this game allows the player to stay in the Celestrian class that they are at the beginning of the game. Several players have dubbed this class "Guardian" and it is believed that a "Guardian" cannot learn any new abilities. However, some have stated that "Guardians" can learn Egg On. Several people have said that upon leveling up in this class, the game will become bugged or crash (due to the fact that all skills are at Level 100), or all NPCs will produce no dialogue, making progress in the game impossible.
  • The glow Celestrians produce resembles that of a character achieving 100% Tension.
  • The Celestrians are the only race that can activate the Starflight Express.
  • The Celestrians seem to share many similarities with the Zenithians. (Both being enlightened, winged beings living in a city high above the world that are protected by a powerful dragon)
  • More than any other previous winged race, the main source of inspiration for the Celestrians from Dragon Quest X are the Celestrians form Dragon Quest IX; for example, in Celestrian history some familiar characters, such as Pavo, can be found, as well as some items like the Starflight Express. However, these are probably just callbacks, as there are some irreconcilable differences, such as their origins or fate, make it so that neither the older nor the newer generation of Celestrians can have any real correlation with the Celestrians of Dragon Quest IX.
