The World of Dai is the otherwise unnamed world where the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, its prequel story The Hero Avan and The Hellfire Dark Lord, and most of its other adaptations take place. As the name implies, it's the homeworld of Dai, his friends and foes. The world of Milladosia, appearing in A Hero's Bonds is a near perfect replica of the world of Dai, but with some differences, however.
The world of Dai is divided between the Surface, the Underworld, which is located underground, and an elusive, never seen Heaven, where presumably the gods came from.
Background[]
Long ago, the world was created by three gods, with each one creating a race of sentient beings: the God of Humans created the Humans, the God of Darklings created the Darklings, and the God of Dragons created the Dragons. The surface world was given to the humans, while the Underworld was given to both the Darklings and the Dragons. The three races, however, were constantly locked into never ending and bloody struggle for controlling the world; lamenting this conflict, the Gods decided to unite, and create together a being that would oversee their creation. As such, they combined their powers, and created a creature with the strength of Dragons, the Magic Power of Darklings, and the heart and outward looks of humans, the Dragon Knight, spontaneously born each generation from the Holy Mother Dragon to protect the world's balance.
Eventually, while Dragons were once both able of speech and even smarter than humans, they slowly lost these abilities and ended up being considered just another type of monster.
Many, many millennia later, the Darkling Hadlar rose as the Dark Lord, and with his Dark Army he threatened to conquer the world. However, he was stopped by the then young Avan and his party, earning him the title of Legendary hero. Meanwhile the dark dragon Velzar, last of the intelligent dragons and ruler of half of the Underworld, was planning an invasion of the surface, but was stopped by the Dragon Knight of the era, Baran, and then sealed in stone by the spirits of Heaven.
Fifteen years later, Avan had taken to teaching, training several young people in the ways of justice. When Hadlar, resurrected by the dark magic of the immensely powerful Vearn, the other godlike ruler of the Underworld, as the Dark Commander of the new Dark Army, returned and apparently caused the death of Avan, his Disciples, under the leadership of his last student, the young mighty hero Dai, began a quest to slay Hadlar, defeat the Dark Army, and avenge their master.
Geography[]
The surface world is home of several human kingdoms, big and small.
- Dermline Island- An uninhabited island only occupied by wild, but peaceful monsters. It is there, under the care of the Lump shaman Brass that the young Hero Dai grew up.
- Romos Kingdom- The only kingdom of the Rhineriver continent, it once guarded both the Crown of Champions and the mighty Sword of Champions, both made of precious rare material Orichalcum.
- Dark Forest- A labyrinth forest inhabited by terrible monsters created by Kigiro.
- Nayle Village- A small village on the outskirts of the Dark Forest, Leira, and later her daughter Maam, grew up here.
- Papnica Kingdom- The only kingdom of the continent of Holkia. Due to the fact that Holkia was in the past the base of operations of Dark Lord Hadlar, it has seen the most ferocious battles. Leona is the crown princess of this country, and sole remaining ruler after the disappearance of her father.
- Underground Palace- The old stronghold of Hadlar, now one of the bases of the Undead Legion. It is there that Hyunckel grew up under the care of the kind Bartos.
- Yomicain Ruins- An ancient ruin that holds a magic library located at the south of the Kingdom of Papnica. Matoriv ended up sealed inside a book there.

- Cave of trials- A very dangerous dungeon created by the God of Humans to store powerful holy spells to test whoever ventured inside.
- Bengarna- a commercial port town, boasting superior military and industry and as such considered the safest country in the world.
- Teran Kingdom- A rural country bordering with Bengarna. With no industry or military, it slowly fell into decline but still housed knowledge of the legends about the Dragon Knights.
- Dragon Temple- An underwater temple underneath a lake, sacred to the people of Teran as well as the Dragon Knights.
- Alkeed- A kingdom of which Baran's future wife, Soala, was the princess. Sadly, the king and his people hated and feared Baran, leading to heavy discrimination, that culminated in the death of Soala and the disappearance of their son. In his rage Baran completely wiped out the kingdom.
- Fountain of Miracles- A special lake with sacred properties that can heal Dragon Knights of their wounds.
- Sovereign Rock Castle- The current base of operation of Vearn's Dark Army, it was located in the mountains of Guildmain, before it was activated and used in a failed attempt to conquer Papnica, resulting in the castle's destruction.
- The Field of Death- A rocky, barren continent completely desolate and devoid of life; underneath it, Vearn personal floating palace was stationed in secret, waiting for the moment to initiate the final phase of Vearn's plan.
- The Underworld- an underground world located underneath the surface, it is a dready, cruel, barren land, with molten lava flowing instead of water, and were the strong rule over the weak with an iron fist.
