Dazzle is a recurring spell used in the Dragon Quest series.

Characteristics[]

Attempts to surround targets with illusory duplicates of the party, making it harder for them to successfully hit when using a physical attack, though it does not affect spells and some skill abilities. Unless stated below, the target's accuracy is reduced to 3/8ths. As with all other debilitative spells, it maintained a base accuracy of 100% until IX.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest II[]

Making its debut, it is learned by Princessa at level 6 and costs 2 MP to cast. It is also used by Corpse Corporals, Goregons, Miasmas, Brainy Badboons, Liquid Metal Slimes in the NES original, and Eyelashers.

  • Note: in the original version of II, enemy accuracy is only reduced to 75%.

Dragon Quest III[]

Learned by Priests and Sages at level 7, it costs 4 MP to cast and increases the chance that an enemy's attack will miss when under the effects of the spell by 50%. It is also used by Batterfiles, Betterfiles, Bags o’ Laughs, Lump Mages, Rottenweilers, Goodybags, and Ghouls in battle.

Dragon Quest IV[]

Learned by Kiryl at level 6, it acts the same as in III and costs 4 MP to cast once again. It is also used by Pickayunes, Frolickers, Red dragons, and Dangler Fish, as well as Platinum King Jewels in the remakes. Orifiela also uses this spell when fighting alongside the Chosen.

Learned by Bianca, recruited Drackies, Grudgerigars, and Hellions at level 5, Nera at level 12, and already learned by Madchen, Debora, and recruited Pocus Poppets when they join the party, it acts the same as in previous appearances and costs 4 MP to cast once again. It is also used by Mental Pitchers, Eyepods, Pocus Poppets, Hocus chimaeras, Quadraheads, and Sootbonces in battle.

Dragon Quest VI[]

Dazzle is already known by Ashlynn upon joining the party, and learned by Milly at level 6, while other characters can learn this spell by advancing to rank 2 of the Mage vocation. It costs 5 MP to cast, and is also used by Damselflies, Aristobats, Mechalomaniacs, and Octavian Sentries in battle.

Dragon Quest VII[]

Learned by Maribel at level 11, and by advancing to Rank 2 of the Draguar and Rank 6 of the Mage, it acts the same as in previous appearances and costs 5 MP to cast. It is also used by Clawcerers, Horcus Porcuses, Purrestidigitators, Winged Sabrecats, Damned Wells, Platinum King Jewels, and Numpton in battle.

Dragon Quest VIII[]

Angelo learns Dazzle after investing 3 points into his Staff skill tree, costing him 5 MP to cast once again and affects one group of enemies. It is also used by Puppeteers, Killer Moths, Puppet masters, Dark stars, Unholy Bishops, as well as Lump Mages,

Dragon Quest IX[]

Dazzle is learned by Armamentalists at level 2. It costs 5 MP to cast once again, and has a base accuracy of 75%. Once the caster's magical might reaches 50, the spell will gradually become more accurate. Once the stat reaches 500, the spell have a base accuracy of 100%. It is also used by Larstastnaras, as well as Batterflies, Betterfiles, and Clawcerers once again.

Dragon Quest X[]

Learned by Rangers at level 29, it acts the same as in IX and costs 3 MP to cast. It is also used by Paralakeets, Weaken Beakons, Hell conductors, Prison Leaders, Slimeshrooms, Dark skeletons, Lickity spits, Polar Pollies, Übergines, Jiademons, Giraffe Sisters, Girguish, Gasmons, Guru Sudok, Darkness of Envy, Remilia Kagema, and the Unfinished Demon, as well as Batterflies, Betterflies, Bags o' Laughs, Pickayunes, Frolickers, Clawcerers, Winged Sabrecats, and Dark Stars once again.

Dragon Quest XI[]

Learned by Serena and Rab when they have joined the party, it acts the same as in its last two appearances and costs 3 MP to cast once again. It is also used by Prestidigitators, Grand Master Pang, and the Archfiend's acolyte, as well as Miasmas, Lump Mages, Bags o' Laughs, once again.

Dragon Quest Walk[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned at level 1 when wielding the Book of Hiten, level 8 when wielding the Demon whip, level 10 when wielding the Mountaincleaver, Wyrmwand, Saintess rod, World tree ice staff (magic), Fairy wheel and Volcano whip weapons, and level 15 when wielding the Thunderstorm skean. It costs 16 MP to cast for the first time since Super Light, and can also be learned by recruited Treefaces, Bags o' Laughs, Urnexpecteds, and Sham hatwitches at level 30, as well as recruited Flamethrowers at level 10, which costs 25 MP to cast.

Dragon Quest Tact[]

Already learned by Bags o' Laughs, Pickayunes, Axolotls, Killer Moths, and Foebergines when they are recruited, as well as Jailcats at level 16, it acts the same as in previous appearances and costs 8 MP to cast.

Dragon Quest Treasures[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Drackolytes and costs 10 MP to cast.

Dragon Quest Champions[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is already learned when wielding the Thorn whip and Demon whip weapons. It costs 6 MP to cast, and is also used by Winged Sabrecats once again.
