Double-Edged Slash is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series.

Description[]

Deals high damage to an enemy, but inflicts recoil damage on the user.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest III 2D-HD[]

Only appearing in the game's 2D-HD remake, it is learned by Warriors at level 16. It costs 6 MP to use for the first time since XI, its prequel, and is used by Lethal armours, Skelegons, and Grievous bodily arms in battle.

Dragon Quest VI[]

Making its debut, it is obtained by advancing to rank 4 of the Warrior vocation and inflicts 150% damage, but the user takes 25% recoil damage. It costs 0 MP to use and is also used by Metal slime knights in battle.

Dragon Quest VII[]

Acting the same as in its debut, it is now learned by reaching rank 4 of the Gladiator vocation and by mastering the Notso macho vocation. In the 3DS remake, the skill deals 170% damage and the recoil damage is reduced to 1/6th. In addition, it is learned by reaching rank 3 of the Gladiator vocation and rank 2 of the Champion vocation. It costs 0 MP to use again and is also used by the Slaughtomaton in battle against its enemies.

Dragon Quest IX[]

Acting the same as in VI and VI, it is learned with 42 skill points allocated into the Guts skill tree of the Gladiator vocation. It costs 0 MP to use once again and is also used by Bad karmours in battle.

Dragon Quest X[]

Once again learned with 42 skill points allocated into the Guts skill tree of the Gladiator vocation, it can deal 3.2x damage to enemies, while taking 35% of that damage. From 1.3 onwards, it deals 1.5 damage to enemies, while taking 25% of that damage, and is also useful during dual wielding. From Version 3 onwards, it can be used alongside Hurt Converter to recover the same damage lost from attacking. It costs 0 MP to use once again and is also used by Headhunters and Nightmare Chase, as well as Bad Karmours once again in battle. In the Offline version of the game, it is learned by the Hero in the Gladiator vocation at level 21 and by investing 7 skill points into Hussar's Cool Character Builder.

Dragon Quest XI[]

Hendrik can learn this skill with 20 skill points allocated into his Heroism Character Builder. It costs 6 MP to use, hits for 320% damage, and inflicts 32% recoil damage upon use. It can be used alongside Hurt Converter once again to recover damage lost from the skill, as well as Double Up for increased damage.
