Double-Edged Slash is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series. It deals high damage, but inflicts recoil on the user.

Appearances

Dragon Quest VI

Double-Edged Slash inflicts 150% damage, but the user takes 25% recoil damage. It is obtained by advancing to rank 4 of the Warrior vocation, and is also used by Metal slime knights in battle.

Dragon Quest VII

The skill has the same parameters as before, but is now learned by reaching rank 4 of the Gladiator vocation and by mastering the Notso macho vocation. In the 3DS remake, the skill deals 170% and the recoil is reduced to 1/6th. In addition, it is learned by reaching rank 3 of the Gladiator vocation and rank 2 of the Champion vocation. The Slaughtomaton can use it in battle against its enemies.

Dragon Quest IX

This ability is learned with 42 skill points allocated into the Guts skill of the Gladiator vocation. It acts the same as in VI and VI, and is also used by Bad karmours in battle.

Dragon Quest X

Once again learned with 42 skill points allocated into the Guts skill tree of the Gladiator vocation, it can deal 3.2x damage to enemies, while taking 35% of that damage. Headhunters, as well as Bad karmours once again, use this skill in battle. From 1.3 onwards, it deals 1.5 damage to enemies, while taking 25% of that damage, and is also useful during dual wielding. From Version 3 onwards, it can be used alongside Hurt Converter to recover the same damage lost from attacking.

Dragon Quest XI

Hendrik can learn this skill with 20 skill points allocated into his Heroism character builder. It costs 6 MP to use, hits for 320% damage, and inflicts 32% recoil damage upon the knight. It can be used alongside Hurt Converter once again to recover damage lost from the skill.
