Dragon Quest Wiki

Dr Snapped is the final boss of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, and is the end result of Dr. Snap being corrupted by his own Darkonium Orb. He's also a fuseable monster and is one of the hardest ones to obtain because of the convoluted fusion pattern required to make him.

A far cry from his original self, Dr. Snap becomes the monstrous Dr Snapped. He's a reddish pink creature who appears to be heavily deformed: his upper half appeared to be a warped torso with four appendages that resemble a hand with a large head and a blue tongue that is always stuck out.

His lower half somewhat resembles an insect with two leg-like appendages and has a vortex-like mouth with sharp teeth. Various parts of his body have black orbs embedded in it, as well as several black orbs (likely darkonium) hovering around him.

Monsters series[]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[]

He appears as the final boss, alongside a Tortured Soul and Demon-at-arms.

He can be created by synthesizing Orgodemir and Rhapthorne2, then Darkonium Slime and Captain Crow, and synthesizing the resulting monsters together.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2/Professional[]

Solitaire uses a Dr. Snapped in her final team to battle the player, along with an Ace of Spades. Interestingly it has access to the double trouble ability in this battle, even though it does not have this ability in Joker 2, only the first game. As such, he is actually fairly weak for how difficult he is to obtain.

It can be synthesised in the exact same way as the first game.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3/Professional[]

The villain Garuvirus (ガルビルス) heavily resembles Dr Snapped, and was created when his leftover ill-will combined with Darkonium after his death. It fuses with the artefact Mother to evolve into the final boss Garumazard (ガルマザード) .

It is unclear whether this character is Dr Snapped himself who has been corrupted, or a clone with a different personality. In Japanese it uses notably different speaking patterns, and in the fan translation is called "an imposter" and seems to not know what Dr Snapped's evil plan was. (It says "I want to become the strongest monster master", when Dr Snapped actually wanted to turn everyone into monsters.)

Garuvirus resembles his first form with the hand becoming winglike and some form of shell surrounding his abdomen, except for the mouth. It is now able to fly and create smaller hand minions. Garumazard is a radical change to an elegant humanoid with an insectoid lower body and many glowing wings resembling flower petals.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light[]

Dr Snapped is obtainable in this game and has a moveset based on raising "Dark Matter Concentration Levels" between 1-5, to buff his allies.

He also appeared in one page of the official DQMSL 4-koma webcomic.

Other series[]

Dragon Quest Tact[]

Dr Snapped appears in the November 2022 (JPN)/February 2023 (ENG) DQMJ crossover event. In this game he is a Debuff type ???-Family monster and focuses on poison-type AoE attacks that move him or the enemy across the battlefield. He has a passive ability calls Nadirian Gate that creates debuffing Dark Matter Squares when he dies. A weapon based on him was also added, named Mysterious Glove.

He has very little appearances in the story of the event, but is a boss in multiple challenge battles called All Out Attack Dragon Quest Joker and Polluted By Dark Matter: Dr Snapped EX.

Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi![]

Dr Snapped appears in the April 2023 event "Dr Snap's Ambition and the Running Incarnus". He is a "batokeshi" event- a random chance Wanted poster monster that can appear after completing any story stage during the event. Ace Of Spades is also available this way.

You can obtain his Eraser by defeating him a certain amount of times. When used by the player, he's a Purple type Eraser and his special move is Kazammle, a large darkness attack that clears an area of effect around him.

  • Amusingly, it is possible (if unlikely) to synthesize him before Dr. Snap even transforms or is defeated, leading you to own a monster that, by all means, shouldn't exist.
  • Soltaire owns this monster in Joker 2, however this should be impossible since he requires Captain Crow to be made, whom there's only one of him in the in-game world, and he joins the player (or wanders the land, if the player never defeats him). This is the exact same story with Ace of Spades and the Incarnus.
  • In the Japanese version of DQMJ Captain Crow cannot be rematched in the same save file, thus it requires multiplayer play to create a Dr Snapped.
  • Dr Snapped's battle theme in the first game is a remix of the standard boss theme from Dragon Quest Monsters.
  • He's one of the few final bosses in Dragon Quest who is accompanied by other monsters: in this case, he's accompanied by a Tortured Soul and a Demon-at-Arms.
  • They also appear alongside him in his appearance in DQ Tact. In the challenge match Polluted By Dark Matter: Dr Snapped he summons increasingly large amounts of them whenever they're defeated, and gains a stat boost each time.
  • In DQ Tact, his passive ability is mistranslated as Nadirian Gate instead of Dark World Gate, unintentionally implying DQMJ has a connection to the mainline DQ games. He also says "by the Goddess!" despite coming from a game that didn't contain Rubiss.
  • Despite being the final boss of Joker 1 and having a convoluted fusion chain required to make him, he's weaker than the monsters needed to create him.
  • In Japanese he has a distinctive laugh of "Nyahaha" and a more comical and cutesy personality, which is retained in his monster form.
  • The only time this catchphrase has been retained in English media is in DQ Tact where it is rendered as "nyeh heh heh".
  • According to the DQMSL 4-koma, his Dark Matter powers can be used to cook pickles.
