Differences from the original[]
Although the director stated that this new animated version would be more faithful to the manga, numerous differences can be seen. One of the, is that the pace of the story is often faster, removing small details from some episodes in order to compact it. See each individual episode's page for more details.
Another difference is due to the broadcast time of the show, any sexual content scenes were removed, altered or toned down. The use of blood is inconsistent from episode to episode. Notably, Maam wears tights instead of being bare legged and Soala royal outift has no cleavage. Zurbon has loose garments instead of them being skin tight.
Although the source material only had monsters from the first to third Dragon Quest games leaving on the surface, the anime updated it with monsters up to the Dragon Quest XI.
The anime also use updated game designs, replacing Christian crosses with a reverse 'Y' symbol. Also 5-point stars and 6-point stars are replaced with rosettes, manga re-editions having removed the stars symbols entirely.
English subtitles are inconsistent with the use of UK or US English, spells and such usually use the game localizations. Also, localizations seen in the manga are ignored.
