Policy update for April 2021

Administrators, please put your suggestions below and let's create a consensus before April for the conduct policy.--Jfgslo (talk) 17:47, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

I'll start with the following suggestions:

  1. Always remember that this space wasn't created just to appeal to long-time fans: it's for everybody who is, or wants to be, one.
  2. All editors from any background are welcome as long as they focus on Dragon Quest. We all contribute to this wiki for the love of the Dragon Quest franchise. Focus on creating or improving content related to Dragon Quest.
  3. Don't worry about proper grammar when editing or creating an article. As long as it is done in good faith, anything to improve and expand the wiki is welcome.
  4. Don't patronize other editors.
  5. Use the talk page to sort things out first if there is a conflict. If that doesn't work, ask an administrator for help.
  6. Editors that harass other editors will be warned and multiple offenders will be banned for a year. Administrators have full authority and can act at their discretion when they find such conduct.
  7. War-editing for more than three times without consultation with an administrator will results in a temporary ban for parties involved.
  8. Vandalism, such as blanking a page or inserting spam will be immediately met with a one year ban.

Let me know your thoughts.--Jfgslo (talk) 18:14, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

I've begun a draft at Project:Conduct policy/Draft. Here is the plan:
  1. Begin with the simplified version of the ground rules (done—moved from the MoS to the draft doc).
  2. Define who is welcome to join, and how to join.
  3. Lay out what users can expect from us, e.g. what we can provide while they're here, how to get hold if they have questions or concerns, how Fandom can help if and when we can't, things like that. Also, what can we provide that other DQ fansites don't or won't?
  4. Lay out what users should do to conduct themselves properly while on the Wiki.
  5. Define the consequences of improper conduct, and give the user tools to report it.
  6. Make clear that all—even we admins—are expected to abide by the same. We are of equal standing with the readers.

Regarding Our Mission section, my proposal is the following:

  • The purpose of this wiki is to spread the love and appreciation for the Dragon Quest franchise, its associated products and people. In order to achieve this, the wiki tries to document all media generated around Dragon Quest, from its main games and characters to its promotional products and media, like Japanese animation and music, as well as the main people behind it, such as its creators.

For Getting Involved:

  • We welcome all contributors, from newbies to hardcore fans, that want to help accomplish our mission. Simply edit any article if you think you can improve it somehow. Even minor details, such as grammar, are appreciated.
  • If you don't know how to do it, feel free to ask for help to other contributors and administrators. We all are fans and are here to help.

For Things You Can Expect from Staff:

  • The staff is here to help. Don't be afraid to contact them.
  • The staff reads all comments left at their talk pages, but don't expect a prompt answer from everyone. We do this as a passion project, but we all have lives outside the wiki.
  • Generally speaking, the staff monitors most edits done in the wiki, but we are humans so we might let something slip. Don't hesitate to correct any such things that you catch. The staff will appreciate it.
  • The staff is not here to monitor how you comport in anything besides your contributions to the wiki.

For Things Staff Can Expect from You:

  • Concern yourself only with Dragon Quest related stuff within this wiki.
  • We expect all contributors to act in good faith and we'll try to assume that all will do so unless proved otherwise.
  • Don't do immature contributions to the wiki, such as putting patently false information or puns in your edits.
  • Don't war-edit with other contributors.

For Violations and Enforcement:

  • Generally speaking, we are only concerned with bad faith edits and war-editing.
  • Vandalism, defined as the deliberate editing of pages in a disruptive manner, such as blanking page or inserting gibberish will be immediately met with an indefinite ban, no questions asked. This is not restrained only to this definition and administrators will also use their judgement in what they consider vandalism.
  • War editing is severely frowned upon. If related parties insist on this after being warned by an administrator, they'll be temporary blocked from editing for a day. Each subsequent offense related to the original incident will increase exponentially the ban to one week, then one month and finally one year.
  • Inappropriate behavior not directly involved with the wiki, such as interactions with other contributors in their talk pages, will be decided by the administrators involved at their own judgement.
