A dragon scale is a recurring accessory in the Dragon Quest series that usually gives some defense bonuses. First introduced in Dragon Quest, it has been a staple in many games.

Dragon Quest[]
Legend has it that the Dragon's Scale fell from a dragons body a long, long time ago. A light green fossil that fits in the palm of your hand, it has mysterious powers and slightly increases your defense by 2 and it costs 20 G. It can be found in all item shops in Dragon Quest. Due to text restrictions, it was named "D-Scale" in the Gameboy Color remake of Dragon Quest. In the mobile remake, it increases defense by 5 instead.
Dragon Quest VIII[]
Dragon scale returns as an accessory with a defense bonus of +5. It can be worn by everyone but offers no special properties. It cannot be bought and sells for 240g.
