Dragon Quest III[]
Making its debut, it is learned by Mages and Sages at level 15, leeching 5~11 MP from a single enemy. It costs 0 MP to cast and is also used by Voodoogooders, Mimics, and Pandora's Boxes in battle, as well as Crones and Shadows in the HD-2D Remake.
Dragon Quest IV[]
Learned by Borya at level 25 and by Maya at level 16, it functions exactly as it did in the previous game in the NES version, but follows the (Lvl/4)+5 algorithm set by later games in all remakes and subsequent ports. It costs 0 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Bloody blades and Voodoo gooroos, as well as Mimics once again and Pandora's Boxes in the remakes.
Dragon Quest V[]
Absorbs 5~11 MP in all versions, and is learned by the following characters:

It costs 0 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Slime knights, Canniboxes, King cureslimes, and Dwight in battle, as well as Mimics once again.
Dragon Quest VI[]
Acting the same as in previous appearances, it is learned by Ashlynn at level 14, and by Goowain at level 3, while other characters can learn it by advancing to rank 6 of the Mage vocation. The algorithm changes considerably this time around, and the amount drained from an enemy is calculated as (Lvl/4)+5. It costs 0 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Cureslimes and Disgustlings in battle, as well as Canniboxes, Mimics, and King Cureslimes once again.
Dragon Quest VII[]
Acting the same as in VI, it is learned through a Hybrid ability of the Mage and Thief vocations. In the 3DS remake, it is learned at rank 1 of the Sage vocation, rank 4 of the Champion, and rank 1 of the Druid. It costs 0 MP to cast once again and is also used by Pandora's boxes, Grimoires, in battle,
- The spell has been nerfed in the remake, using the formula of drained MP = 5~11 instead of VI's formula.
Dragon Quest VIII[]
Acting the same as in previous appearances, it is learned by investing 12 skill points into Angelo's Staff skill tree, with the formula being (Lvl/4)+5 once again. It costs 0 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Peepers, Magic dumbbells, Yabbies, and Crayzees, as well as Pandora's Boxes once again.
- In the 3DS version, Red learns Drain Magic at level 40.
Dragon Quest IX[]
Though not available to player characters, it is used by the Master of Nu'un, Tyrannosaurus Wrecks, Shivery shrubberies, Bloody manguinis, and Slugly betsies, as well as Pandora's Boxes once again.
Dragon Quest X[]
Usable by players for the first time since VIII, it is learned by Mages at level 35, Armamentalists at level 30, Druids at level 55, Death Masters at level 61, Dragon Magicians at level 105, and already learned by Pirates, as well as investing 3 skill points into recruited Slime Knights and recruited Drackies' Sword Rider and Magic Dracky skill trees, but is now dependent on the caster's Magical Might instead of their level from this game onwards. It costs 0 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Drackolytes, Fightgeists, Blinksters, Bone bats, Flying corpses, Haunted tomatoes, Whiskamancers, Skycats, Luminous lamplings, 24-carrot bunicorns, Tundrackies, Kukulkannibal, The Hole, and Brenda, as well as Pandora's Boxes once again. In the Offline version of the game, it is learned by Fuura at level 25 and by the Hero in the Mage vocation at level 15, Armamentalist at level 30, and Dancer at level 38. It is also used by Kyusuke, Miko Himea, Galmy, and Prince Odisu when they temporarily fight alongside the Hero and their party.
Dragon Quest XI[]
Acting the same as in previous appearances and X once again, it is learned by Veronica at level 24 and Rab at level 28. It costs 0 MP to cast once again, and is used by Troobloovoodoos, Mega mimics, Pandora's big bad boxes, and the Leger-de-man at Baramos' Lair, as well as Mimics, 24-Carrot Bunicorns, Luminous Lamplings, and Pandora's Boxes once again, though the latter must be Malicious.
Dragon Quest Heroes II[]
Appearing as a Heavy Wand combo spell, it is already learned by Lazarel and Teresa when they are in either the Mage or Sage vocations, and steals MP from an aimed area that has enemies in range. It is activated by pressing △. (X in the Nintendo Switch port)
Dragon Quest Walk[]
Acting the same as in previous games, it is learned by recruited Ghosts at level 30 and recruited Mud mannequins, Canniboxes, and Woebergines at level 10, costing 13 MP to cast.
