Eliza is a minor character in Dragon Quest IV. She is the Hero's childhood friend, having grown up with them in their hidden village.

Eliza is a teenaged girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. She wears a blue blouse with a white skirt and pink sandals, and accessorizes with a fuchsia headband along with a gold bangle and two wrist rings.

Eliza is a mischievous girl who enjoys playing light-hearted through the use of the Morph spell, which she managed to learn to cast all on her own. Her age is unknown, but she is said to be a little older than the hero.

Dragon Quest IV[]

Eliza has lived in the village of the Hidden Valley since childhood, becoming fast friends with the future Hero at an early age. Like everyone else in the village, Eliza is committed to hiding and protecting the Hero from the forces of monsterkind until they fully develop into the chosen savior. When the agents of Psaro raze the town, the Hero's father hides them in the storehouse, and she follows them in. As the monsters draw near, Eliza states that she can't allow the Hero to die, and, taking on their form, rushes the attackers and sacrifices her life for the Hero.

Eliza's dialogue just prior to the attack is suggestive of romantic feelings towards the Hero, as she states she wishes she could stay with them forever. This dialogue is the same regardless if protagonist is male or female, making her possibly the first bisexual character in the series.

During the ending cinematic, the Hero returns to the hidden village and gazes forlornly upon the ruined town. When a heavenly light descends from above, the charred village is restored and Eliza is brought back to life. The two join in a silent embrace before they are greeted by the rest of the Chosen.

Dragon Quest XI (3DS and Definitive Edition)[]

The Luminary finds Eliza in a sticky situation when visiting the Hidden Valley--she's gotten herself trapped in the form of a slime, and the villagers have taken none too kindly to this sudden visitor. A supreme sage's staff is required to set her shape-shifting straight. This event takes place some time before the events of IV, as she is still trying to get the hang of Morph.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[]

Eliza made a brief reappearence in this title, being only seen from afar; furthermore, the events taking place at the Hidden Valley occur in a different manner.

In this version of events, Duffer and Eileen, who after trying to locate the hero for quite a while, finally managed to locate Hidden Valley's village, and accompanied Psaro to investigate the location and capture the hero, male and going by the name of Solo, while all three were disguised as humans thanks to the spell Morph. However, after spending a night at the local inn, the settlement was not attacked and destroyed the following morning by the Manslayer himself and his forces, but by Dolph, his older, far crueler brute of a half-brother. Claiming to be Psaro himself, Dolph threatened the villagers to relinquish Solo, only to order his own troops to slay them all when they refused.

The real Psaro and his friends could only hide and watch as Eliza, disguised as Solo with Morph, challenged Dolph's army, having shortly before accompanied the real Solo to a safe place, Psaro held back from interferring by his worried subjects; after her tragic end, the real Manslayer was able to guess, unlike his duller brother, that the slain hero was a fake, only to be interrupted by the arrival of Aamon and his assistant Furgil, who then, while floating out of reach, goaded Psaro to step up his plan, and wipe out all of humankind.

Solo, exiting from his hiding place just then, could only see Psaro move away from the scene with his two subjects.

  • While it is not outright stated that Eliza is an elf, this is implied through the use of the elf sprite in the NES version and her pointed ears in the remakes. However, her official art shows her as a normal human girl, and none of the villagers regard her any differently. In the Dragon Quest CD Theater, she has ruby tears, which is a special elf trait that Rose is hunted for in the game.

The name Eliza is in reference to her (innocently) deceitful nature through the use of morph, containing a homophone for lie.
