Etymology[]
Being a homely creature with dozens of eyes, a play is made on the word "eyesore", referring to any object so outrageously unsightly that it should be removed and destroyed; and since this insectoid resembles a prehistoric lizard, the Greek -sauros, meaning "lizard", is added.
