The False Idol (formerly Evil Statue or Eye of Malroth) is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series, mostly remembered for its inception as an important item in Dragon Quest II.

Dragon Quest II[]
Making its debut, it is located at the Shrine of the Great Conflagration of the Sea Cave, where it is guarded by two Whackolytes who must be defeated prior to receiving the item and is used to open the Cave to Rendarak, achieved by standing in front of where the entrance is hidden to reveal the cave. Later, it is also used by the Scions of Erdrick to reveal the 1B staircase within the Hall of Hargon after they use the Eye of Rubiss to dispel the illusionary Midenhall by standing near the tile where the staircase is hidden. In the HD-2D Remake, its role is set to be more or less the same, though it is also guarded by Pazuzu in addition to the 2 Whackolytes, though only Pazuzu himself is fought.
Dragon Quest Builders 2[]
It is first seen in the ruined church as a part of the Children of Hargon's altar. It is seen again in the sinister shrine in Khrumbul-Dun.
