Fizzle (Also known as Kafizzle in the Monsters series from Joker onwards) is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.

Description[]

Seals the magic of a group of enemies and causes them to waste a turn. Prior to Dragon Quest IX, the spell had a base accuracy of 100%.

Dragon Quest[]

Making its debut alongside the series, it is learned by the Hero at level 10. It costs 2 MP to cast (5 MP in the HD-2D Remake once again), and is also used by Drohl diabolists in both the NES original and HD-2D Remake, Spitegeists, Knight errants, Scarewolves, Vis magers, Dread dragons, and the Dragonlord in battle against their enemies, as well as Drackolytes, Bags o' Laughs, Vladdies, Treevils, One-Man Armies, the Sorcerer, Mirages, and Goregoyle in the HD-2D Remake. Some enemies will not be affected, such as Scorpions, because they do not have any spells. If used alongside the Hero's Soul Sigil, it becomes the Souped-Up Skill Achilles' Wheel.

Dragon Quest II[]

Acting mostly the same as in its debut, it is learned by The Prince of Cannock at level 8, but can now target a single group of enemies from this game onwards. It costs 3 MP to cast (5 MP in the HD-2D Remake), and is used by Smogs, Miasmas, Shamen, Treevils, Hawk men, Gargoyles, Grimlins, Sorcerers, and Pazuzu in battle against their enemies, as well as Drackolytes, Bags o' Laughs, Vampire Cats, Scarewolves, Knight Errants, Drohl Diabolists, Spitegeists, Dread Admirals, Hoodlums, Vis Magers, One-Man Armies, Hardy Hands, Cadabra, Brute Bat, and the Dragonlord's Grandson in the HD-2D Remake. Just like in I HD-2D, if Caradoc's Fizzle is combined with the Soul Sigil, it becomes the Souped-Up Skill Achilles' Wheel.

Dragon Quest III[]

Acting the same as in II, it is learned by The Hero at level 18 (He can also learn it immediately with the use of a glitch in the NES Version), while both Priests and Sages learn it at level 13. It once again costs 3 MP to cast (5 MP in the HD-2D Remake), and is also used by Vladdies, Vampire cats, Bags o' laughs, Leger-de-men, Hoodlums, Vladiators, Infanticores, and Abracadabrers, as well as Dread admirals, Flying flayers, One-man armies, Hardy hands, Arcticores, and Ashdemons in the HD-2D Remake.

Dragon Quest IV[]

Acting the same as in its last two appearances, it is learned by Kiryl at level 13, and is also emulated when using the Staff of antimagic and the Sphere of Silence in battle. It once again costs 3 MP to cast.

Dragon Quest V[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances, it is learned by recruited Magic marionettes at level 15, recruited Pocus poppets at level 17, recruited Grudgerigars at level 19, and is already learned by Parry, recruited Goodybags, Samiginas, and Prestidigitators when they join the party. It costs 3 MP to cast once again and also is used by Prestidigitators, Legerdemen, Goodybags, Samiginas, Necromancers, Quadraheads, and Mermaniacs, as well as Bags o' Laughs once again.

Dragon Quest VI[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances, it is learned by Nevan at level 11, while other characters can learn it by advancing to rank 3 of the Priest vocation. It costs 3 MP to cast once again and is also used by Silencing rams, Damned rams, Gryphons, Hirsute hexers, Marrow escapees, Tormentaurs, and Merkings in battle, as well as Goodybags once again.

Dragon Quest VII[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by advancing to Rank 4 of the Priest vocation and Rank 1 of the Malevolantern. It once again costs 3 MP to cast, and is also used by Axassins, Scargoyles, Malevolanterns, Captain catastrophes, Necromacers, Knightshades, the Malign vine, Envoy, and Gasputin, as well as Shamen once again.

Dragon Quest VIII[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Angelo after investing six points into his Staff skill tree and the Hero after investing 40 skill points into his Courage skill tree, while it can also be cast when using the Staff of Antimagic as a item in battle once again. It costs 3 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Fencing foxes, Dieablos, Paprikans, Witches, Lump wizards, Merkings, Dark gryphons, Hell hoppers, Wight kings, and the Silver Dragon, as well as Bags o' Laughs, Flyguys, and Gryphons once again.

Dragon Quest IX[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Armamentalists at level 14, and has a base accuracy of 75%, which rises once the caster's Magical Might reaches 50, and has 100% base accuracy once the Armamentalist's Magicial Might reaches 500. It once again costs 3 MP to cast, and is also used by Maguses, Purrestidigitators, Badjas, and Tyrannosaura Wrecks, as well as Shamen, Sorcerers, Goodybags, and Wight Kings once again.

Dragon Quest X[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Mages at level 18 and Druids at level 59. It costs 3 MP to cast once again, and is also used by Drackolytes, Catulas, 24-carrot bunicorns, Hat hamwitches, Hell conductors, Antiquitrees, Hellbound hair-raisers, Cursed crooners, Paralakeets, Emperor tappers, Jumbo drackies, Magic Solider Hypnos, Kukulkannibal, Hate tree, Megidrome, Razukeepers, Ringjara Demon, and the Green Winged Demons, as well as Knight Errants, Gryphons, Vampire Cats, Bags o' Laughs, Purrestidigitators, Lump Wizards, Hoodlums, Hawk Men, Gargoyles, Marrow Escapees, Wight Kings, Samiginas, Dread Dragons, and Pazuzu once again. In the Offline version of the game, it is already learned by Fuura when she joins the party, and is also used by Guru Sudok in his boss fight.

Dragon Quest XI[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Veronica at level 13 and Serena at level 15. Dragon Warrior Monsters[]

Called StopSpell in this game, this ability can be learned by various monsters. It requires the monster to be at least level 9, with at least 44 MP, and 38 Intelligence. It is naturally learned by the catfly, centasaur, crestpent, darkhorn, facetree, gremlin, jewelbag and snapper among others.

Dragon Warrior Monsters 2[]

StopSpell now requires 69 Intelligence to learn.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[]

Fizzle costs 3 MP and lasts for 4~7 turns, with the base success chance of 60% rising to 80% at 3,999 wisdom. It is learned through the Antimagician, Cheesy Grin, Dark Artist, Dragonlord, Grump, Heavenly Herald, Jasper Unbound, Materialist, Mouth Guard, Nature Child, Protector, and Smarty-Pants talents.

Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Series[]

Reappearing from the first Battle Road onwards, it acts the same as in previous appearances once again and is the blue button skill for Goodybags and Gryphons. If used alongside the player in the Martial Artist vocation from Battle Road II onwards, it becomes the Drop Kick skill.

Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes II[]

Fizzle is used in battle by Gargoyles, Hocus Chimaeras, Hawk Men, and various other monsters to seal enemies' spells, as well as their skills when they step into its casting area. When a monster that has this spell is summoned by a Monster Medal, it seals the enemies' spells until the effect wears off.

Dragon Quest Tact[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Spitegeists, Lump Wizards, and Gryphons at level 22, and Purrestidigitators at level 18. It costs 16 MP to cast, and is used by the Malign Vine once again during Kiefer's Battle Road. In addition, a Multislash variant of this spell makes its debut in this game.

Dragon Quest Treasures[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Drackolytes and Valhalla vultures at level 5, costing 20 MP to cast.

Dragon Quest Champions[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned at level 20 when wielding the Hocus locus and costs 9 MP to cast.
