The Galapagod is a character in Dragon Quest X. They are worshiped by the people of Tenton as the guardian deity of the village, but in truth, the true identity of the Galapagod is that of Tenma Falchion, the Divine Beast of Astoltia tasked with protecting the entire Human race.
Appearance[]
The Galapagod is similar a galapogos tortoise with a reddish color scheme, very long limbs, horns at the front and sides of it's head, a long tail, and red scales with a purple shell. The Galapagod is much taller and bulkier than a typical tortoise, so much so that villagers are able to ride upon it like a horse.
In truth, the Galapagod’s true appearance is that of white winged horse similar to a pegasus. Furthermore, Galapagod is able to assume the form of a Human, under the alias of Zion, by temporarily sealing most of his powers into a hairpin.
Personality[]

Falchion's hand puppet, used to communicate at long distance.
The Galapagod is a calm, peaceful creature that enjoys the company of the Tenton villagers. This belies the animal's true nature though-- it was the Pegasus of legend that once fought against Great Demon King Nerodus one thousand years ago and defeated the undying Demon King before seeking refuge in the island that Tenton sits upon at the exact center of the world, taking the form of a tortoise to remain undetected by conspirators while recovering his strenght.
When monsters besieged the village, the Galapagod's power is what allowed the Hero to reincarnate into a new body instead of entering the afterlife, and also saved Anlucia from Demon Marshal Zerudorado. After regaining his true appearance, he can be rather silly, such as deciding to use a hand puppet version of himself for communicating with people far away from his location.

Dragon Quest X[]
Due to the battle against Nerodus, Falchion's powers diminushed, being forced to take the form of a turtle-like creature, with only the sacred Tensu Flowers being able to temporarily gift him strenght and return Falchion to his original form from his Galapagod appearance.
In Version 2.3, thanks to the much, much stronger breed of Tensu Flowers developed by the Hero's sibling, the Galapagod's power is finally permanently restored, and it takes on the form of a winged horse once more, which becomes the steed of Anlucia.
As of version 4.5, the player has the opportunity to rebuild Tenton and Pegasus will opt to return to it's tortoise form to watch over the village in the hero's absence, being called upon by Anlucia when needed.
Dragon Quest XI 3DS and Definitive Edition[]
The Galapagod was kidnapped by monsters in the form of a Wrecktor, a Heedoo voodoo, and a Leger-de-man and taken to Baramos's Lair. Tenda had a vision of this tragedy taking place, and foretold of the Luminary's arrival to return the sacred reptile.
Dragon Quest Treasures[]
Tenma Falchion, in his Zion form, makes an appearance as one of the statues that young Erik and his sister Mia could find during their stay in Draconia may find among many other treasures.
Etymology[]
This creature is most likely modelled and named after the species of giant turtle that was once dominant on the Galápagos Islands of South America; the name itself is a mashup of Galapagos and god, the latter in reference to its high status.
