Galdandy is a minor antagonist in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. He is a direct subordinate of Baran and one of the three lieutenants of the Dragon Legion serving as the Sky Dragon Rider.
Appearance[]
Galdandy was a tall bird humanoid sporting yellow furred skin. He had four-fingered talons on his "feet" but otherwise normal human hands. He wears a multi-colored suit of armor with dragon scale patterns on their red plates, and a black belt in the middle.
His chest was adorned with a golden dragon insignia on his left, and his armor had uneven shoulder protectors, his left side being multilayered and dark, while his right side had a single layer and was bronze-like. He wore armored gauntlets and leg protectors that only covered the lower half of his legs. The sides of his head were decorated with two accessories featuring green jewels and then a strand of gold falling up to the bottom of his neck.
Expectedly of a birdman, Galdandy had a very prominent beak and two sets of large wings. His face is most notable for his extremely long and spiked eyebrows almost forming a "V" along with his spiky sets for red and white feathers which made up his "hair".
Personality[]
Galdandy was overconfident of his strength, typically toying with his opponents and often overlooked threats. Galdandy was vicious in combat and had absolutely no mercy for his foes, especially humans whom he thought nothing about. He did, however, have a soft spot for his pet dragon, mourning inconsolably for its loss and flying into a rage over its demise. Galdandy was notable for his sadism, enjoying torturing his victims and making them suffer, which became far more personal towards Popp for killing his dragon. His arrogance and compulsion towards unnecessary cruelty proved to be his downfall as it created openings that led to his defeat.
Plot[]
Galdandy is one of Baran dragon riders that were in the same level of the six generals. Galdandy is sadistic and likes to kill. While Baran was preparing for his assault on Teran, Galdandy attacked Bengana with his dragons.
The Dragon Army are confronted by Popp on their way to Teran, and the Dragon Riders say that Baran can go-ahead that they will kill the mage. Galdandy fights first and keeps torturing Popp after beating him, until Popp sees an opening and kills Galdandy favourite dragon, making the birdman enraged. When Popp is about to be killed, Hyunckel comes and save him, Galdandy then saying he will be the one to kill both Popp and the traitor former commander of the undead army, but Hyunckel says that Popp is more than enough to kill the Dragon Rider. Popp resumes his fights and kills Galdandy with a close-range Boom.
Halo Arc[]
After the battle at Teran, Baran gave his blood to the corpse of the three Dragon Riders, but only Larhart was revived.
Abilities[]
Galdandy served directly under Baran as one of the three Dragon Riders whose power is said to match that of the Legion Commanders.
Being a birdman and a tamer of aerial dragons, he demonstrated dominance over the sky by escaping Popp's Donk spell and attack the young sorcerer, thereby terminating the gravity field. He was shown to prefer swordsmanship due to the use of a rapier as his weapon of choice, although not much was seen of it.
Galdandy was sadistic in combat and often toyed with his opponents which gave many unnecessary openings that were exploited repeatedly. His signature abilities were the feathers on his "hair", which could be used as non-lethal darts but had an additional effect; the white feathers could drain magic power from its victims while the red feathers drained stamina. Combined they'd weaken the target to the point they could not fight back unless they were removed.
For all his boasting, Galdandy could be considered to have rather average endurance, his wing easily tearing apart from Hyunckel's Bloody Scryde and then being subsequently killed by a point-blank Bang spell by Popp despite the latter had already spent the majority of his magic power.
