Galenholm (also known as Garinham in the Game Boy version) is a town located in the northwestern corner of Alefgard in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest Builders. It is named for its founder, Galen, who travelled the kingdom as a bard of high renown, and owned the Lyre of Ire. It was preceded by Galen's House, which was present during the events of Dragon Quest III. It does not appear in Dragon Quest II, along with many other locations in Alefgard. Being located in the north, its climate is bitterly cold, sometimes even freezing.

Synopsis[]

Dragon Quest[]

Galenholm is typically the first major town the hero visits after Tantegel, offering substantial equipment improvements over the paltry selection in the aforementioned town. It is revisited later in the game after the hero has obtained a supply of magic keys, giving the player access to the Grave of Galen.

Dragon Quest II[]

Galenholm has no significant role in Dragon quest II, and as such it is not possible to visit, not even appearing on the overworld map at all.

Dragon Quest XI 3DS and Definitive Edition[]

Galenholm appears as a location in the Echo Chamber in the 3DS and Definitive Edition versions; it takes the appearance of the NES version of Dragon Quest in the former and a 16 bit appearance in the latter. When first visited, the town is overrun with monsters. The random encounters will stop if you defeat the wrongo bongo located at the entrance to Galen's Grave.

Monsters[]

Dragon Quest Builders[]

In this game, Galenholm (along with Kol) consists of different areas that can be reached by using teleportals:

  • The Bleak and Burning Badlands
  • The Island of Lava
  • The Galenholm Ruins
  • The Island of Ice

The chapter's theme focuses on harnessing magic to fight elemental enemies, and the boss at the end of Chapter 3 is a colossal fusion of a magmalice and a firn fiend. The town itself has fallen to monsters and become a frozen hellscape.
