Giga Drain Magic

Giga Drain Magic (Mega Drain Magic in the 2D Mode of XI) is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest X[]

Making its main series debut from 3.3 onwards, it is used by Lump shamen in the Tower of Ten Thousand Demons, Evil Cubism during the Evil God Palace Boss Fight, King Dominus in both fights, Breeding Beast, Heavenly King slime, and the Evil God's Right Hand to drain about 0 to 120 MP from a single target.

Dragon Quest XI[]

Acting the same as in X, it is used during the Booga, Mordegon, Lord of Shadows, and Sheer Decadence boss fights to absorb a lot of MP through the Green Orb, though the effect differs depending on either the 3D or 2D Mode of the game. In 3D Mode, it's classified as a skill and can't be reflected, draining 6 to 8 MP from random targets, while in 2D Mode, it drains 10 to 15 MP from all enemies.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional[]

The spell costs half of the caster's current MP and is cast four times, with the player selecting the first target but the others being randomly targeted. Each victim is drained of 25% of its maximum MP, with a range of 5~10 MP layered on top of that.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D/SP[]

Giga Drain Magic has the same effect as in Joker 2: Professional.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key/SP[]

Giga Drain Magic has the same effect as in Joker 2: Professional.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light[]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3/Joker 3 Professional[]

It still costs 50% MP for four shots but the spell's effectiveness now depends on the caster's level, being 75% of the monster's level with 5~10 MP added. For example, if a caster is at level 64 then the range for one shot will be 53~58. Additionally any of the four drainings can be reflected back at the caster to no effect, and are subject to going haywire like any other spell.
