The Gobbler's spells are tough to deal with, especially since you can't answer in kind. The Magic Robes from the casino can mute the damage from these spells if won and equipped. Give Maribel the Salvation stone and have the Hero and Ruff attack normally. Even without the use of magic, the Gobbler isn't that difficult a boss to beat.
