Gomechan, short for Li'l Golden Metal Slime, is a character in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai and its animated adaptations.

Profile[]

Gomechan is the nickname it received from Dai in their first encounter, which alludes to its appearance: golden metal slime. The "-chan" suffix comes from a term of endearment used by close friends or otherwise applied to cute animals.

Gomechan is immune to the Dark Lord's influence even outside of Avan's purification spell in Dermline Island.

It is revealed that Gomechan is in reality a Tear of God, a mythical living item that can grant any wish and that only the pure of heart can receive. For over 10 years, it took the most suited form to fulfil Dai's earnest wish for a friend, gaining a personality in the process.

Appearance[]

Gomechan is a small golden slime with a pair of wings.

Personality[]

Despite being a godlike creature, Gomechan is portrayed as rather timid, as inferred from its appearances in the mobile game A Hero's Bonds. Nevertheless, it is close with Dai, Popp, and Maam and is quite animated around them. Though it only speaks in slurps and slops (as some slimes do when they have not mastered the human tongue), Dai and his human friends are shown to be able to understand it without complication, which is a special feature of the whole series.

Abilities[]

Gomechan, a tear-shaped creature the size of a human fist, possesses wings that enable flight and impressive strength to carry Dai's Crown of Champions, a symbol of gratitude from the king. Gomechan is the only one who is immune to the Dark Lord's influence even outside of Avan's purification spell in Dermline Island. Its tears possess remarkable healing properties, rejuvenating Dai and restoring his stamina after his defeat by Crocodiline. Gomechan's resilience is evident as it endures a powerful strike from Baran, the formidable Dragon Knight, potentially holding back to render Gomechan unconscious. Alongside its resilience, Gomechan showcases extraordinary abilities such as navigating perilous paths to the afterlife, attempting to prevent departures, and communicating with the unconscious. Additionally, it can unleash a radiant yellow aura, accelerating at astounding speeds to deliver a powerful charge capable of denting the Orichalcum body of a chess member, ultimately saving Chiu but rendering itself unconscious in the process.
