Gorgona, is an antagonist from the Dragon Quest manga series, Emblem of Roto. He's one of Imajin four Kings, commanding a force of Undead and Shadow monsters.
Appearance[]
At a first glance, Gorgona appears as a tall, broad figure clad in a dark cloak, his entire visage covered by a hood adorned with a crown of small skulls and spikes. Several spider-like eyes arranged in an horizontal line can be seen under the hood, alongside hints of pointy fangs. Gorgona's limbs often poke out of the cape, resembling overly long, multi-jointed spider limbs covered in spikes and culminating in three-clawed hands.
Without his cloak, Gorgona resembles a large red humanoid spider, with three pairs of arms departing at different angles from his rounded shoulders, carapace covering most of his body and fang-filled mouth nested between two chelicerae. On the spider's back there's a large lump resembling an almost-closed flower of bone, with each "petal" hosting a different human face: in the middle of this "flower", hidden under all the petals, eyes can be seen, belonging to Gorgona's real human body: a corpulent, bald man of average size with full cheeks and markings on his forehead.
Personality[]
Caring for no one but himself, he views everyone from Jagan to even the Bones of Baramos as tools to fulfill his purposes. He's extremely cruel to the point of gratuitous sadism, as seen when he purposefully moves around on a black cloud that envenoms and kills any living beings nearby or when he reanimates his undead minions by willingfully regenerating their nervous system but not their skin tissue, causing them to be in costant agony. While he's devoted to Imajin, he seems to be on more familiar terms with him than anyone else, with Imajin himself mentioning that he and Gorgona share the same birthplace.
Abilities[]
As the "King of the Undead", Gorgona's main powers rely on his use of necromancy to create undead minions, even out of freshly-slain servants. His skill in making undeads is so great that he can decide how much of his minions bring back to life, leaving their nerves exposed on purpose to make them suffer more. He can also endow his undead creations with the ability to spawn more monsters whenever part of their bodies are hacked off them. However, the presence of holy ground will nullify his necromantic powers.
Gorgona is also extremely knowledgeable in regards of spells and magic, often conjuring a massive, mephitic black cloud to move around while, at the same time, spreading death and disease.

Emblem of Roto[]
One of the Four Great Demon Kings, he commands the Undead monster family, even reviving the Bones of Baramos to serve him and test the abilities of the blood of Roto. He brainwashes Laurent the 4th with a mask of malice and has him fight Jagan in order to awaken his demon powers by killing his father. He and the Dragon King are also dispatched to remove the seal on the Sea King Leviathan and unleash his mutated amoeba form upon the world in an attempt to kill Arus and his companions. It is also revealed that in the 100 years that passed since Zoma's death, Gorgona poisoned the great Yggdrasil tree, so that its leaves are unavaible.
After the defeat of the reborn Orochi in the Jipang arc, the Dark King decides to take matters in his own end and go there personally to stop Arus' group from forging a new Orichalcum sword. After a long battle on the shores of the sacred lake, Gorgona is ultimately defeated by the heroes and forced to reveal his true form by the old Tao, who reveals that he and Gorgona were the leaders of the ancient continent of Mu, explaining how the latter, who was formerly a human, ended up creating the Demon God Imajin while researching a way to make the people of Mu immortals. Gorgona is eventually slain for good by the heroes, leaving only the shriveled Dark Spider's corpse behind.
