Guns' n' Buns (Ogler's Digest in Dragon Quest XI) is one of several Personality-changing books.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest III[]
The book is a one of a kind, only granted to the player after beating Xenlon. The dragon will chastise the player for desiring such "filth", but then admit that it is his greatest treasure, issue number one no less, and tells the player to treat it with the care it deserves. When read, it gives the person who read it the Lothario (if male) or Vamp (if female) personality.
Dragon Quest XI[]
In the original release, the magazine is revealed to be among Rab's possessions and is perhaps his most treasured. It is first seen in Sniflheim as the party leaves town after saving it in Act I. After giving an inspiring speech to the group, Rab discovers that the magazine had fallen out of his pocket, to which the party calls Rab out for his perversion. He immediately tries to deny it, claiming that he only reads it for the articles.
Referred to as Issue 1 of Ogler's Digest, the magazine becomes a key plot device in Act II, where Rab has left it exposed whilst meditating at the summit of Mount Pang Lai. There, the Luminary and Hendrik discover it while searching for a missing hermit, later revealed to be Rab himself. Hendrik marvels at it, implying that he is also somewhat familiar with the magazine series. It is later seen again in Act III at Angri-La when it falls out of Rab's pocket when he tries to show Grand Master Pang the results of his training. Seeing the magazine and realising the Rab still has not broken his old habits, Pang disciplines him again with the naughty stick.
The book is later found in the Briscoletti mansion and can be used on Jessica to get her personality sorted out while she stays at Chateau Felix. This doesn't work and instead turns her into a sultry bunny girl instead, which leaves her mother aghast.
Dragon Quest Treasures[]
The magazine appears on floor of the Viking's ship at the beginning of the game and is owned by the Vikings. According to Erik, the Vikings say they only read it for the articles and that he is a bit too young to appreciate such high-brow content.
