- For the melee weapon type, see Staves (weapon type).
- For the one-handed magical weapon type, see Wands (weapon type).
Heavy wands, or staves, are a recurring type of weapon in the Dragon Quest franchise.
Introduced in Dragon Quest X to separate the bigger staves from the more dainty-looking Wands, this two-handed weapon type is, like their smaller counterparts, favored by magical characters such as mages, priests, and sages, and many can also cast second tier spells if used as an item during battle; due to this re-classification being a relatively new change, many Heavy wands were previously categorized as simple Wands in earlier titles. Since they require the use of both hands, they in most circunstances do not allow equipment of a Shield in the other hand.
Despite both being referred as "staves", the Heavy wands should not be confused with the true Staves, which are purely melee weapons.
