Helm Splitter is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series. It reduces the enemy's defence for 7~10 turns, with the exact amount varying between games.

Appearances

Dragon Quest VII 3DS

Only appearing in the remakes, it is learned by advancing to rank 4 of the Gladiator vocation and rank 2 of the Champion vocation. It is also used by Lieutenant kernels in battle.

Dragon Quest VIII

Making its debut, Yangus can use Helm Splitter as an axe technique learned after investing 6 skill points into the associated skill tree. It reduces a foe's defence by 50%, effectively casting Sap on them.

  • In the 3DS version, it reduces defence by 25%.

Dragon Quest IX

Acting the same as in VIII, this ability is learned with 35 skill points invested into the Axe skill tree. It is also used by Slime knights, Bad karmours, and Skeletons in battle against their enemies.

Dragon Quest X

Learned when 42 skill points are invested into the Axe skill tree, it acts the same as in previous appearances, with its power increasing from 1.4 onwards. It is also used by Haardvarks, Sacred silver haardvarks, Axesauruses, Hippo soldiers, and the Majin Spindle in battle, as well as Bad karmours and Slime knights once again.

Dragon Quest XI

Hendrik will learn Helm Splitter via his Axes Character Builder for 6 skill points. It costs 3 MP to use, and has a fixed of 50% to cut the target's defence in half, while hitting for 120% damage. It is used by Slime Knights once again.

  • Later on, Hendrik can learn an enhanced version of the skill called Scrap Mettle for 16 points, which deals 150% damage, has a 75% chance to cut defence, and costs 9 MP to use.
