Helm Splitter is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series.
Description[]
Reduces the enemy's defence for 7~10 turns, with the exact amount varying between games.
Appearances[]
Dragon Quest VII 3DS[]
Only appearing in the remakes, it is learned by advancing to rank 4 of the Gladiator vocation and rank 2 of the Champion vocation, costing 0 MP to use. It is also used by Lieutenant kernels in battle.
Dragon Quest VIII[]
Making its debut, Yangus can learn Helm Splitter as an axe technique learned after investing 6 skill points into the Axe skill tree. It reduces a foe's defence by 50%, while damaging them and costs 0 MP to use.
- In the 3DS version, it reduces defence by 25%.
Dragon Quest IX[]
Acting the same as in VIII, this ability is learned with 35 skill points invested into the Axe skill tree and costs 0 MP to use once again. It is also used by Skeletons, Slime knights, and Bad karmours against their enemies.
Dragon Quest X[]
Acting the same as in its last 2 appearances, it is learned by investing 42 skill points into the Axe skill tree, with its power increasing from 1.4 onwards. It costs 4 MP to use, and is also used by Haardvarks, Sacred silver haardvarks, Axesauruses, Hippo soldiers, Majin Spindle, Hippo Sardon, and Hippokin in battle, as well as Bad Karmours and Slime Knights once again. It is also learned by recruited Harmours when 12 skill points are invested into its Demon Sword skill tree. In the Offline version of the game, it is learned by investing 3 skill points into the Hero and Hussar's Axes Character Builder.
Dragon Quest XI[]
Hendrik will learn Helm Splitter via his Axes Character Builder for 6 skill points. It costs 3 MP to use, and has a fixed of 50% to cut the target's defence in half, while hitting for 120% damage. It is used by the Knight aberrant in Damdara, as well as Slime Knights once again.
- Later on, Hendrik can learn an enhanced version of the skill called Scrap Mettle for 16 points, which deals 150% damage, has a 75% chance to cut defence, and costs 9 MP to use.

Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Series[]
Reappearing from the first Battle Road onwards, it acts the same as in previous appearances and is the red button skill of Berserkers and the Bandit axe weapon.
Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes II[]
Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned by Yangus after investing 6 skill points and costs 5 MP to use. In the sequel, it is one of the Knight errant's skills after transforming into them via their Monster Medals and is also learned by Aurora after investing 15 skill points, as well as Yangus once again. It costs 8 MP to use, and is also used by the Strong Knight Aberrant in battle.

Dragon Quest Walk[]
Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned at level 8 by equipping the King axe and Pro's axe weapons, and the Bad axe, Gold slime hammer, Liquid metal sword, Metal slime axe, Miracle sword, Rubiss's sword, Storm anchor, Thralin gear, Vortex axe weapons, as well as Paladins at level 10, costing 9 MP to use. It is also learned by recruited Hawk men, Slime Knights, Harmours, Cruelcumbers, and Knighton at level 10, and recruited Hoods at level 50, costing 20 MP to use.
Dragon Quest Tact[]
Learned by Hammerhoods at level 16, and already learned by Bullfinches, Pruslas, and Gripevines when they are recruited, it acts the same as in previous appearances once again and costs 12 MP to use. A scroll of this ability can also be obtained by clearing Stage 7 of Bewarewolf's Battle Road and Stage 2 of Sintaur's Battle Road, as well as buying one for 750 Anniversary Medals each.
