The Hero/Heroine is the main character in the original "Bonding Journey" storyline of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - A Hero's Bonds.

The Hero's gender, hair, facial features, and voice are all completely customisable by the player; and whether male or female, they wear a largely plain white tunic with gold accents and a red cape draped over the back. Each bears a mysterious mark on the centre of their forehead. The male wears brown and white boots over brown trousers, his arms fitted with bracers.
