Hym is an animated Orichalcum lifeform created by Hadlar using Forbidden Magic and is also a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. He later becomes an ally to Hyunckel and Dai's party.

Background[]

Appearances[]

Personality[]

Hym was initally cruel, uncaring, and violent. He was always eager for a battle with enemies he deemed worthy and was furiously loyal to Hadlar, just like other Elite Guards, to such a point that he would attack anyone who insulted him, as a Barbatos learned the hard way. His honorable conduct and sense of companionship is a reflection of Hadlar's newfound mentality when he created him.

He fights fairly and honorably, but ruthlessly. He appears laid-back but he is in fact very hot-headed, haughty and prideful, not even considering other opponents than the heroes are a challenge, even when they prove talented. He is extremely stubborn and single-minded, developing an obsession with beating and then having a rematch with Hyunckel.

After being reborn as the Silver-Haired Beast however, he learns to shed his obsession and treasure the life he was given by his late comrades' spirit, genuinely befriending Hyunckel. He is disgusted to see the other animated chess pieces, rightfully deeming them worthless, soulless automatons, who lack everything that made his team great despite sharing their powers. He first fights against Vearn out of revenge, but he befriends the heroes. Despite being exasperated by the fat rat monster Chiu's ridiculous antics, he grows to respect his leadership skills and willingly becomes a part of his Beast Battalion, even opening up a little a beginning to show his own silly side.

After fighting against Hyunckel, they start a sort of friendship but it was indeed after Hyunckel saves his life when fighting against Maximum that he recognizes in him a brother-at-arms and decides to fight for Hyunckel and help Dai's party.

Abilities[]

As an entity made of Orichalcum, Hym is nigh immune to most forms of damage, leaving very few methods available to hurt him. Hym is a powerful fighter who specializes in close quarter combat by fighting in proximity through the use of his fists which are strong enough due to his Orichalcum composition. Hym's signature attack is the Heat Knuckle in which he casts Kafrizz on his fists to reinforce his attack power tremendously, although his use of the spell is limited to this particular attack only.

Defensively Hym has shown to be fairly strong, taking Zaboera's spells at point blank range to no effect whatsoever. He can also defend himself against the likes of Nova's Northern Granblade which is capable of destroying Orichalcum, purely by adjusting his positioning in order to minimize damage.

Being the Pawn of the group, Hym could be considered the overall weakest of the Guards although nonetheless a formidable adversary. However, he also holds within him the power of Promotion which allows him to change. This power in conjunction with his personality traits, allow him to inherit Hadlar's soul upon his demise, allowing Hym to survive despite Hadlar's death, granting him life of his own as well as drastically change his appearance to resemble that of Hadlar while increasing his strength as well.

Now as a Silver-Haired Beast, he has inherited Hadlar's will.
