Hyunckel is a fair skinned young male with short light silver hair (The 1991 series has his hair lavender and eyebrows black). He tends to wear a cape, a suit of dark clothing with a white skirted lower section. He wears a pair of white boots and has bandage wrappings around both his arms.
As the Dark Swordsman, he is wearing tight black and white garments and a skirt held by a belt. His belt buckle had the same design Dai's one obtained from Romos but later had a skull design after he defeated the party. He has a cape under which he keeps his magic armor weapon.
Equipment[]
He received from Mystvearn the Dark Armour Blade, and after defeating Larhart he receives the Dark Armour Spear that is said to surpass the sword version.
Personality[]
Hyunckel is a troubled youth. As a result of being raised the monster Bartos, he viewed him and other monsters as family and with little human contact. Because of this he was incredibly hateful and harbored deep feelings of revenge towards Avan, who he blamed for the death of his parent and friends for the sake to save the world from Hadlar, therefore growing to hate the idea of justice.
Hyunckel was incredibly cunning and pretended to accept Avan's tutelage, only as a means to gain the strength to kill whom he perceived as his father's murderer. When this failed, Hyunckel grew even more resentful to the point that even Vearn, took a great liking to him.
Hyunckel made little effort to hide his hatred and displayed every bit of it during his encounters with Dai and his party being overwhelmed by his sheer malice and willingness to kill everyone connected to Avan and his teachings, even scorning on Avan's symbol.
Nonetheless, Hyunckel held great love for his father Bartos and viewed him as the role model of a warrior, as the latter taught him of honor and particularly to not kill women, values he himself held deeply. After learning the truth of his father's demise and his defection from the Dark Army, Hyunckel has mellowed out considerably, discarding his hatred for Avan and in fact fully embracing his role as one of his disciples, fighting for justice and becoming a great, loyal companion.
While on his time on the Dark Army, he looked favorably to both Baran and Crocodine as honorable fighters, but scorned Hadlar blaming his weakness for dying to Avan as a cause to his father's death, thought of Flazzard a fool, viewed Zaboera as an indignity amongst the Six Legion Commanders, and held respect for both Vearn and Mystvearn.
His soul color is purple means warriorship.
Plot[]
Biography[]
As a baby, after his town was burned down by the Dark Lord's army, Hyunckel was adopted by its general, Bartos. Raised among monsters, Hyunckel had always thought of them as a family. When Avan invaded the Underkeep, Bartos hid him and proceeded to face the hero. After Hadlar was dead, Hyunckel found his father deceased and the body of his other monsters friends. The boy was taken as a student by Avan, not knowing that Hyunckel desired to take his life.
Hyunckel learned both the Earth Slash and the Wave Slash, and during his graduation, the day he received the Avan pendant, Hyunckel tried to stab the hero, but was blown back into the river by Avan's act of self-defence. Mystvearn then found and took the boy to be trained and become the next undead army general. Hyunckel then learned dark skills and received the Dark Armour Blade from him.
Gathering Arc[]
When Dai, Popp and Maam Arrive at Papnica port, the place is already in ruins and Hyunckel greets the party after showing then the Earth Slash and Avan's pendant. However, Hyunckel then says he despises Avan and still wants revenge against him and his students. Hyunckel summons his skeleton subordinates and attacks the party. Hyunckel counters Dai's Earth Slash, Wave Slash and Avan Strash itself, as it was stated by the same it was an incomplete technique. Hyunckel shows his demon sword that can be equipped as an armour whose visor could be used as a sword. The armour reflects all magic at Popp and Maam, and Dai is almost killed by Hyunckel's sword technique Bloody Scryde with his Undead Control. Maam tries to use dazzle, but the warrior is immune to it and knocks her down. Dai tries to hit Hyunckel's face with frizz but misses and is almost killed if not for Crocodine arriving at last moment to intercept the attack and send both Popp and him away with a Garuda. Hyunckel takes Crocodine to the Underground Palace for healing and Maam as bait for Dai.
Hyunckel meets with Zaboera at his keep while waiting for Dai saying he doesn't need his dirty tricks.
Hyunckel meets with Popp and Dai at the castle battlegrounds for a final battle. Dai distracts Hyunckel while Popp casts Ranarion. Dai throws his sword away and casts Zapple on the commander that resists the attack and defeats the duo. Maam who was able to escape her cell with the help of Gome, reached the battleground to find Dai fainted and trying to explain to Hyunckel about his father, as she has found his final message in a Secret Shell. While Hyunckel listens to his late father words, discovering that Hadlar was his murder, Dai unconsciously develops the Flame Earth Slash, combining a spell with a melee strike, which is strong enough to break Hyunckel's armour. Hyunckel used his Undead Control again to bind Dai, that with Popp's help manages to use a lightning slash (zapple combined with the incomplete Avan Strash) and defeats the warrior. Flazzard appears at the end making the volcano erupt, saying that his plans was to kill both Hyunckel and Dai independent of the battle's result. The undead army was annihilated, and Hyunckel at his final moments understands Crocodine's feelings and sacrifices himself to save Dai and his friends.
Hyunckel is saved by Crocodine and reappears at Valge Island to face Hadlar.

Hadlar survives the attack and goes to finish Hyunckel who he thought was unconscious due to using all of his energy, but when he's about to attack, Hyunckel launches his sword through Hadlar's second heart, killing the demon for sure this time. Hyunckel then stands with his revenge complete and leaves (although Hadlar still revives due to Vearn's powers).
Hyunckel and Crocodine arrive to help Dai and his friends against Flazzard, but are defeated by the fire and ice monster. Hyunckel blinds Dai in a form to help him in how to learn the Air Slash and destroy the monster's core. Mystvearn appears and stores Flazzard's remaining fire part into an armor that fights against Dai and is defeated by Avan Strash.
After Leona is freed and Maam leaves the party, Hyunckel apologizes to the Papnica princess and offer his life, which she refuses to take. The next day he and Crocodine go to spy the Sovereing Rock Castle, just to discover that the place has been moved.

Hyunckel appears at the last moment during the battle between Popp and Galdandy to save his friend. Popp says that Dai and Baran are related by blood and that the Dragon Commander is going to go take Dai away after having erased his memory. He allows Popp to finish the dragon rider and then easily beats Borahorn. With the objective of saving Baran from his hatred of humans, Hyunckel is determined to stop the Dragon knight from taking Dai, but first he has to defeat Larhart, Baran's adoptive son and the last Dragon Rider stading.
Larhart also use a armor crafted by Lon Berk, the Dark Armour Spear that surpass the sword version. Holy Sword Arc[]
Hyunckel comes to the battlefield to face Mystvearn. Hyunckel tries to use Dark Puppetry Aura Hand to paralyze his former master, but his technique was way weaker due to the lack of dark aura and couldn't barely stop him. Abilities[]
As the first of Avan's disciples, Hyunckel was a very skilled fighter, undertaking the path of the warrior and learning more refined swordsmanship under his tutelage. He was able to master both the Earth Slash and the Wave Slash but could not master the Air Slash due to his imbalanced heart, full of thoughts of revenge, which resulted in the incomplete Avan Strash, but it have enough strength to destroy Dai's shield.
His swordsmanship was so refined that by the point he met Dai, the latter was outmatched in a direct fight, he also had the advantage over Hadlar and even Lon Beruk thinks he would be a match for him with a sword. His swordsmanship was so great that Hyunckel later created his own unique signature technique, Bloody Scryde, a powerful energy stab that could pierce through his targets by the time he graduated from Avan, A technique that Hyunckel have witness when he was a child with his father, Bartos while received basic sword training.
As a warrior, Hyunckel cannot use spells. To compensate, Hyunckel received training in using Aura, specifically of Light, from Avan, although the young warrior initially brushed it off as useless; then, even further down the line, he received training in using Dark Aura from Mystvearn.
Hyunckel was initially assisted by the Dark Armour Blade forge and created by the legendary craftsman Lon Beruk: a blade who's bulky "sheathe" could reshape into a fully suit of body armor that was highly resistant to all magic attacks, the sword itself could also be utilized and swing as a whip blade extending several meters long. The armor had a weakness against electricity since it was still made of metal it still served as an energy conductor and was thus vulnerable to Zap-type spells like Zapple.
He learned Dark Aura under the tutelage of Mystvearn and could use Dark Puppetry Aura Hand, a Coup de Grâce that uses dark aura to control phantoms and manipulate skeletons, using the latter's property to immobilize a target before using his Bloody Scryde for a certain kill. Mystvearn admitted that Hyunckel's Dark Aura Hand was even stronger than his own. After joining Dai's party, his hatred fundamentally wanes so he is unable to employ Dark Aura as strongly as before.
After joining the Hero's party, he began using the Aura of Light, using Avan's Grand Cross for the first time against Hadlar, tapping into his own life energy to deal a great amount of damage. At first, using it made him unconscious, but he eventually overcame this against Larhart. After his signature blade is destroyed, Hyunckel switches to the Dark Armour Spear obtained from Larhart, learning the Avan Style Spear Technique from scratch in 5 days,[1] eventually mastering the spear counterpart versions of the Avan Style Sword Techniques, the Earth Strike and Wave Strike, based on the Book of Avan. During the Sovereign Rock Castle assault, he even mastered the spear Air Technique, the Air Strike. He also learned of Avan's Empty Stance during this training.
He also able to use his Bloody Scryde which is exclusive to the Aura of Light during the Sovereign Rock Castle assault. Meaning that now having become a warrior of justice, Hyunckel was finally able to master the Air Slash, and thusly perform a complete Avan Strash, though he let Avan and Dai to use it. he could now use a complete Avan Strash, although he thinks Dai is better suited to inherit the technique and thus refrains from doing so.[2] After his training with his newly donned suit of armour, the Dark Armour Spear, he came to know 10 hidden weapons[2] stored inside the Dark Armour Spear, but even so he was not as knowledgeable as Larhart with the weapon.
Later in life however, Hyunckel sheer determination to keep on fighting, made him withstand attacks and perform physical feats that bordered on the super-human: he had enough resilience to withstand a lightning impact, while decked in full metal gear, and keep fighting, his physical condition was strong enough he was able to lift a rock large at least thrice his size with Dai and his party on it, and then catapult them several meters away to safety from an erupting volcano, all the while he was slowly sinking into boiling lava and was able to survive the entire ordeal with only relatively minimal burns. He got his chest pierced multiple times, which would have normally killed any other people due to the damage to the lungs and heart, and he was able to even instincively perform one last attack when by all means, all of his physical energy and fighting spirit, should had been depleated. Still, such abuse on his body eventually catched up on Hyunckel, his bones and muscles being so horribly damaged that healing-type spells completely stopped working on him, essentially crippling his fighting abilities forever, never to be able to perform at his full potential again. Even in such a state, Hyunckel still supported the best he could his friends in their final battles against Mystvearn and Vearn, even being able to finally vanquish his old dark master for good thanks to his overwhelmingly strong inner aura of light.

Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest - The Adventure of Dai[]
Hyunckel is first met as one of the bosses encountered both during story mode, as well as in the Temple of Recollection. He has two forms, one where he battles unarmored, and the other where he dons the Dark Armour Blade, increasing his overall defense, but becoming much more vulnerable to Zap damage.
Hyunckle is also one of playable characters, with two different playstyles:
- In one, he uses his Dark Armour Blade; in this form, he has access to the skills, Earth Slash, Wave slash, Dark Aura Shot and Dark Puppetry Aura Hand, as well as two possible Coup de Grâce, either Bloody Scryde or Grand Cross.
- In his second playstyle, he dons the Dark Armour Spear; in this guise he has access to the techniques Earth Strike, Wave Strike, Air Strike as well as his Bloody Scryde as a normal attack, while he only has Grand Cross as a Coup de Grâce.
In both playstyles, once his special meter is filled enough, he can unleash the order Amdo, which allows his Dark Armour weapons to become their full suits of armours; when in this state Hyunckel's defence towards both physical attacks and spells is increased, and also attracts the attention of the enemies more, diverting them from the rest of the party, the effects of Amdo disappearing once the meter is completely emptied.
