Etymology[]
This genus combines names of metals with terms associated with women. The iron maiden is a fictional torture device of mediaeval fantasy with the shape of a woman. Inside is a chamber filled with metal spikes that when closed pierces the victim from in front and behind, it is also known as 'The Chokey' in the Matilda film by Roald Dahl similar to the fictional torture device.[1]
