Demon King Jagan, or Alan is a character from the Dragon Quest manga series, Emblem of Roto. He is a descendant of Roto and cousin of Arus.
Background[]
Jagan was known as Alan, the Prince of the Laurent Kingdom, before he was taken by Ryūō and given the cursed name "Jagan", the 4th Demon King and the leader of the Demon Corps. Due to his cursed state, he becomes paranoid and aggressive, perhaps brutal, but the blood of Roto in him helped contain his humanity.
He is loyal to his master, Imajin, but also feels anger towards his master for holding him back from fulfilling his destiny.
The armour he wears was passed down through the Laurent royal family, from Laurent IV to him. This armour is known as Erdrick's armour and while he is cursed, the armour also becomes cursed along with his Sword of Kings and Hero's Shield.
Most of his powers derive from Roto, such that it makes him equal in power to Roto. His cursed state affects his powers, causing them to become demonic and have evil ailments to them. He has a spell called "Evil Dane", which produces a black lightning bolt similar to Kazapple, with the same power that Roto has combined with the demonic powers of Imajin. It is more powerful than Arus' parallel spell, Zapple.
When Jagan gets serious, he is able to maximize his demonic powers and manipulate his blood like tentacles, ensnaring his opponent. He is able to use mental attacks that causes visions of pain and suffering for his victims.
Appearance[]
As Jagan he has an angry, aggravated demeanor that reflects his cursed state, perhaps the state of his mind as well. He is equipped with a Sword of Kings, Cursed Erdrick's armour and a Hero's Shield.
As Alan his hair regrows to its original state, his armour returns to its original blue colour and his demeanour is less aggressive but more unfriendly.

Emblem of Roto[]
Alan was cursed by Imajin and became Jagan, the Demon King and an antagonist to Arus.
During his battle against Arus, Jagan was delighted by Arus' growth as a Hero and even complimented him on it when Arus asks if they could be friends after their encounter.
After his coronation as a Demon King, he dropped Noannel which was protected prior to this moment. He then went to engage Arus, after the death of Gnon, and went on to defeat him with an overwhelmingly decisive victory. However, in their rematch, Jagan was defeated by Arus and was put at Arus' mercy, thus being spared, to which Jagan released his true demonic power only for it to be blunted by his emotional state.
He eventually lost to Arus yet again, who had grown exponentially since their last encounter. This time he was ambushed by Asteea and freed from his demonic state by her activating the Omegarula, leading to him losing his status as both Demon King and a hero, an unintended side-effect. Jagan, on the verge of losing his life, was restored by his mother, Freya. His original name, "Alan", was returned to him and his original memories came back to him at the expense of his mother's life.
As his memories returned, Alan felt overwhelming sadness at the loss of his mother and his behaviour as Demon King. Following the guidance of his parents' spirits, his curse evaporated from his body and he regained his status as hero. His armour, Erdrick's armour, had also returned to its original blue colour.
Even though he was no longer cursed, his personality remained unchanged. He was still bitter and unfriendly towards others, even his companions.
He eventually married Asteea, despite his unfriendly disposition.
