Kaboom is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series.

Description[]

Unleashes an explosion that damages all enemies.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest II[]

Making its debut, it is learned by the Princess of Moonbrooke at level 19 and costs 8 MP to use. It deals 55~68 damage in the original version and 68~92 in the remakes and ports, and is also used by Archdemons, Wrecktors, Pazuzu, Belial, and Hargon in battle against the Scions of Erdrick.

Dragon Quest III[]

Learned by Mages and Sages at level 38, it deals between 140~160 points of damage and costs 18 MP to cast. It is also used by Hocus-pokers, Baramos, Soul of Baramos, and Imps, though they will always fail at casting it. In the remakes, the spell is also used by Abracadabrers, Baramonsters, EvilClouds, and the GranDragn.

Dragon Quest IV[]

Learned by Maya at level 36 and already learned by Psaro when he joins the party, it costs 15 MP to cast and is also used by Vis magers, Barbatos, and Aamon during the true final battle, as well as Imps once again, though they always fail.

Dragon Quest V[]

Learned by Madchen at level 36, Nera at level 37, recruited Liquid metal slimes at level 8, Minidemons at level 28, and already learned by recruited Barbatoses, it costs 15 MP to cast once again. It is also used by King Korol, Nimzo's final forme, Estark, and Minidemons (Failing to cast it just like their weaker cousins), as well as Barbatoses once again and Archdemons and Wiz pips in the remakes. Recruited Wiz pips, Conkjurers, and Archdemons already learned the spell when they join, and Starkers learns it at level 45 in the remakes.

Dragon Quest VI[]

Learned by mastering the Sage vocation, it now deals between 130~150 damage and costs 15 MP to cast once again. It is also used by Pudgedevils, Demon overlords, and Mortamor's first and final formes.

Dragon Quest VII[]

Learned by mastering the Sage and Barbatos vocations, as well as advancing to Rank 5 of the Black bishop vocation, it acts the same as in VI and costs 15 MP to cast once again. It is also used by Vis magers, Master moosifers, Ersatz Estarks, Orgodemir's "handsome" forms, and Wiz pips (though they will always fail at casting it), as well as Barbatoses once again. In the 3DS remake, it is learned by advancing to Rank 7 of the Sage vocation and Rank 2 of the Druid vocation.

Dragon Quest VIII[]

Kaboom is learned by Jessica at level 33, with a base range of 104~120. Once Miss Albert's wisdom surpasses 251 the spell will gradually increase in power, until her cognitive prowess peaks at 556, and from there the spell will blast all enemies for 184~200 damage. It costs 15 MP to cast once again and is also used by High rollers, Wight priests, Hell hoppers, Democrobots, Rhapthorne's first and final forms, and the Golden Dragon, as well as Archdemons, Belials, and Imps once again.

Dragon Quest IX[]

Kaboom is learned by Mages at level 47, with Sages learning it the level after them. It costs 28 MP to cast, dealing 140 base damage, improving to 218~238 base damage once the sorcerer's magical might reaches 250. It is also used by Clawcerers (Though they fail at casting it), Wishmasters, Alphyns, Shogum, Elusid, and Tyrannosaurus Wrecks, as well as Baramos, Estark, Nimzo, and Rhapthorne once again.

Dragon Quest X[]

Mages learn Kaboom at level 68 with Sages learning it the level after them once again, and recruited monsters and Fromage frays by investing 32 skill points into their Bang Knowledge skill tree. It costs 28 MP to cast once again, though its official cost is 23 as of 2.1, and can deal 94~106 base damage, with the highest being 252~264, and the lower ranges calculated as Magical Might x 0.26 + 45. Its power is increased once again from 5.1 onwards dealing 422 to 435 damage with the maximum Magical Might reaches 1500. The spell is also used by Knight abhorrents, Grimlins, Splatypunks, Pteranodons during the Great argon lizard boss fight and going Vicious in Version 5, Orobases, Aggrosculptures, Scourgettes, Whiskamancers, Quetzalcoatluses, Agehaflies, Gangrems, Goregonzollas, Heavenloons, Indojesters, Fromage Frays, and Splutterflies gone Vicious, Dessert demons, Sorcerer Blackmar, Id, Kukulkannibal, Megidrome, Demon Marshal Zerudorado, and Soul moles as well as Archdemons, Imps, Clawcerers, Master Moosifers, Alphyns, Wrecktors gone Vicious, Pazuzu, Belial, Baramos, Soul of Baramos, Barbatos, and Demon Overlord once again.

Dragon Quest XI[]

Veronica and Serena's awakened form both learn Kaboom at level 57 and can cast it for 24 MP, dealing base damage of 156~172 and slowly rising to a maximum of 262~278. It is also used by Hooper troopers, Hooper dupers, Hoopermen, Lump mages gone Vicious, Drackolytes, Prestidigitators, and Hat hamwitches gone Malicious, and the Pilferpithecus, as well as Knight Abhorrents, Barbatoses, Master Moosifers, Baramos, Wrecktors and Hocus-Pokers gone Malicious, and Scourgettes gone Vicious once again.

Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Series[]

Reappearing from Battle Road onwards, it is the red button skill for both Archdemons and Belials, as well as the Imp's blue button skill, though due to not having enough MP to cast the spell for the latter, it instead throws its pitchfork at one enemy to damage them with an unblockable critical hit. When Archdemons are teamed up with the player in the Sage and/or Hero vocations from Battle Road II onwards, it becomes Crippling Kaboom, while the Imp's Kaboom becomes Omniheal when teamed up with the player in the Hero vocation. In addition, it is the third skill for Shamen, Lump Shamen, and Barbatoses when they have teamed up with the player in the Sage vocation, replacing their Boom and Frizzle spells for the former two, and the Horn Break skill for the latter.

Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes II[]

Learned by investing 16 skill points into Nera, it acts the same as in previous games and costs 25 MP to cast. In the sequel, it is also learned by Lazarel and Teresa when they wield wands in the Mage, Priest, and Sage vocations and reach level 13 in their Wand Proficiencies. It is also learned by Cesar at level 24 or higher, as well as learned by Nera once again by investing 15 skill points.

Dragon Quest of the Stars[]

Appearing as a skill for the Liquid metal staff, it acts the same as in previous appearances and can be eventually equipped to any weapon. It is also used by Archdemons, Estark, and Mortamor's first form once again.

Dragon Quest Walk[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is learned at level 25 when wielding the Lightning staff and at level 30 when wielding Ramia's staff, as well as recruited Minidemons, Jinksters, and Barbatoses at level 50. It costs 38 MP for players to cast and 40 MP to cast for recruited monsters.

Dragon Quest Tact[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances, it is learned by Archdemons at level 54 and costs 95 MP (137 prior to the update) to cast, while it can also be learned by Imps via their Talent Blossoming, provided they have enough MP to cast it. It is also used by Mortamor's final form once again, while a scroll of this spell can be obtained for 3,000 Season 2 Legend League Medals at the Swap Shop.

Dragon Quest Treasures[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances, it is learned by Drackymas, Metal king slimes, Sham hatwitches, Hat hamwitches, Jade slimes, and Pearly wights at level 33, costing 24 MP to cast for the first time since XI.

Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - A Hero's Bonds[]

Can be obtained if one get's the Cherub staff weapon.

Dragon Quest Champions[]

Acting the same as in previous appearances once again, it is the Coup de Grâce for the Seraphic sceptre.

Used by the Dark Lord Hadlar, it is stated by Brass to be the ultimate blast spell and requires both hands to be used. It is first seen used by Hadlar in his battle against Avan in Dermline Island.
