Kigiro, the "Demon Woodman", is a character from Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken Yuusha Avan to Gokuen no Maou, the prequel of The Adventure of Dai.
Appearance[]
Kigiro is a humanoid Treefaces with red-brown leaves as his hair and roots for a humanoid body while hiding his true treeface arms in the collar of his military uniform suit.
Personality[]
Kigiro is a very cruel and arrogant individual, barely hiding his ambition under a thin layer of false modesty, as seen when he cries crocodile tears at the prospect of being promoted again for killing Avan. He's extremely conceited even in battle, openly mocking his opponents whenever he thinks he has the upper hand.
Biography[]
A mutant-Treeface born once every 100 years, he served in Hadlar's Dark Army, back when he was the Dark Lord fifteen years ago, as one of the top four generals, alongside Gangadia, Bartos, and Brass; Kigiro is the one responsible for the creation of the infamous Dark Forest, a massive woodland in the outskirts of the Romos kingdom near Nayle Village full of unusually deadly monsters.
Wearing a military uniform, and a false mask of cowardice, in truth, Kigiro was a being extremely ambitious; as soon as Avan and his friend Roka entered his territory, Kigiro saw it as an opportunity to gain even more status, and attacked after mocking them with a human disguise made of leaves, with the group only able to turn the tides when Leira revealed her Thief's abilities, and Avan performed for the first time the prototype Earth Slash. Nevertheless, after a strategic retrat, Kigiro returned, sending a private challenge to Avan, after having healed and powered up by connecting himself with a gigantic Chewlip, the secret behind the Dark Forest's unusual deadly night monsters. However, Avan, having received mentoring from Brokeena, unleashed the completed Earth Slash, destroying both Kigiro and the Chewlip, although the latter was privately finished off by Brokeena himself with a Refractor Fist.
Kigiro barely survived the encounter, leaving behind a seed that was recovered by the Dark Army's forces, from which the mutant treeface sprouted again. As punishment for his defeat, Hadlar planted the seed in the least fetile soil of the Underground Palace, and barely sent any minions to water him, under the notion that a plant grown in harsh environment would be stronger. Growing frustrated of his treatment and inability to enact revenge, eventually Kigiro uprooted and dragged himself away from his spot; borrowing a Garuda for Bartos for transportation, he flew to Dermline Island, where the tropical climate and Brass's care made him recover faster and better than ever.
Stronger than before, Kigiro wasted no time, and attacked Avan's party again, while the group was seeking consult at Matoriv's old place of study, Gyuta, an ancient temple protected by a barrier; taking advantage of the root system of a nearby tree, Kigiro destroyed one of the pillars sustaining the barrier, dispelling it. He then attacked the temple's guardians with an army of diminutive clones of himself, while in the meantime he confronted Avan directly, who was taking a dangerous trail to improve himself. Absorbing the dark aura of the trial's challenge, an illusion of Hadlar, Kigiro grew even more fearsome and powerful, taking on a truly monstrous form; but Avan, having had a breakthrough for a new revolutionary fighting technique, vanquished him with his newest attack, the Air Slash, alongside Matoriv's ice spear and Roka's Mega destructive first strike attack. Kigiro fled once again, but this time, mortally wounded, he was unable to absorb energy from any plantlife unlike before, because the dark energies he had foolishly taken conflicted with his natural regenerative powers, making him crumble and seemingly pass away.
However, against all odds, Kigiro still managed to survive, as the dark energy and his strong grudge against Avan, made it possible for him to continue as a cursed undead monster, diminutive in stature, but still horribly powerful. Meeting Avan's party a year and half later, during their final battle at Hadlar's palace, Kigiro was eventually vanquished for good after a one-on-one fight with Roka, although it also costed Roka's life, who was felled by the aftereffects of Kigiro's cursed attacks after his victory over the mutant-Treeface.
Abilities[]
As a mutant-Treeface, Kigiro is much stronger that of any regular Treeface, as he has absurd control over his powerful roots to either to whip attack from his extremely flexible arms or to bind his enemies from the ground, as well as his regenerative powers to regrow back his roots no matter how many times their blades sever every branch. He can use the scalding sap flowing within him to attack in many ways with his fluids he drinks coursing into his body at an extremely high temperature, made even hotter by his magic power, making him not only immune to fire spells like Kafrizz, but also able to expel the hardened fluids from his chest like shrapnel bullets, and he can also harden his body stronger than steel, making him nearly immune to all physical attacks that is similar to a Kaclang spell. Due to his vegetal monster nature, Kigiro has shown the ability of "merging" himself with other plant-type monsters to control them like when he controls a gigantic Chewlip for the private challenge battle against Avan. If Kigiro gets killed, he can reform his body from a small seed to grow back like a plant but in the amount of long period of time.
Thanks to the care of Brass and the tropical climate, Kigiro grew tremendously much stronger and more powerful than before. With his immense magical powers of his roots that can spread through the soil over time, Kigiro can create an army of diminutive clones of himself by transplanting portions into any type of plant in any continent, making his very own Heyedras as they all share his consciousness and can emit his voice. Despite their small animal-like creatures, there are considerably strong fighters and even if they get destroyed it won't affect Kigiro's main body. Kigiro can change his body to be more flexible, easily counterattack Avan's Earth Slash to take less damage.
After Kigiro absorb the dark aura in the twilight cave, he became terrifyingly more powerful as he transforms into a tremendous creature with corrupted dark energy within himself. With his body amplifying his strength, techniques and spells are nearly useless against the dark aura barrier he emanate from his body (only to be thwarted by Avan's newest attack, Air Slash to break the dark aura barrier alongside Matoriv's ice spear and Roka's Mega destructive first strike attack, managed to vanquish him.) However, consequently, because the dark energies he had foolishly taken conflicted with his natural regenerative powers, unable to absorb energy from any plantlife unlike before and fatally dies.
