Legacy bosses are a certain type of bosses met in Dragon Quest IX while exploring Grottoes. They are all major or even final bosses from older main Dragon Quest games.

Baramos: He is the first and easiest Legacy Boss you can get. He is from Dragon Quest III and is one of the main villains. His map can be acquired by completing Quest #62 . He drops Aliahan clothes and boots for common drop and a Silver Orb as a rare drop.
Murdaw: He is from Dragon Quest VI and is the ruler of the dream world. His map can be acquired after levelling Baramos past Level 16 and it is a common drop (7-10%). He also drops Somnia gloves and clothes and a Yellow Orb
Dhoulmagus: He is a boss from Dragon Quest VIII and it is the main enemy the Hero hunts for in Dragon Quest VIII. his map can be acquired by levelling Murdaw past Level 16 and it is a common drop (7-10%). He also drops Trodainers , Trodain bandana and Zenithian clothes , helm and trousers and a Purple Orb.
Dragonlord: He is the main boss in Dragon Quest and tries to destroy Alefgard. His map can be only aquired after beating Greygnarl (grotto boss) at a 5% drop chance. He is one of the only bosses who never uses any magic spells (apart from Disruptive Wave). He drops Alefgard boots , helm and armour and a Red Orb.
Psaro the Manslayer: He is the main enemy in Dragon Quest IV. His map can be acquired after levelling Dragonlord past Lv. 16 and is a common drop (7-10%). He drops Zenithian boots and a Green Orb.
Nimzo: He is the main and final boss of Dragon Quest V. His map can be acquired by levelling Psaro the Manslayer past Lv. 16 and is a common drop. He also drops Gothan wristbands , turban , gumboots and robe and a Blue Orb.
Malroth: he is a boss in Dragon Quest II and a reoccurring boss in spinoff titles of the Dragon Quest series. His map can be aquired in Quest #151 by giving an ethereal stone to a man in the cave on the Lonely Coast.
