Leira is a former member of Avan's party in which she was a priest, joining them when they arrived in Nayle Village. She is the mother of Maam, from her union with the warrior Roka, another party member.
Biography[]
Avan the Hero and the Hellfire Dark Lord[]
Before joining the party, she was a thief known as the "Shadow Woman" who secretly defended Nayle Village from the monsters of the Dark Forest. She can cast Swoosh and Midheal.
When Avan and Roka went to Nayle village, she healed them at the church where she and her father lived. There Avan discovered that the thief they met is as dangerous as the monster, attacking the people of the village all the time, they call her the shadow woman.
At the next day, Avan goes around the village gathering information about the master of martial arts while Roka chatted with Leira. Avan confirmed that there's no other way to the mountains where the master lives and that he and Roka would need to go through the forest again if they wanted to find him.
Leira followed the duo as their guide and joined them in their fight against some monsters and even healed them after the battle.
On their way, they are faced by Kigiro in the Dark Forest who entangles both Roka and Leira on his vines, making Avan to have to face him alone. Seeing that Avan would lose the battle, Leira take her thief's knife and cut the vines, taking her priests robes off revealing to be the Shadow Girl. She leaves her clothes in Roka's care while she faced Kigiro and outspeeded him. The teamwork of trio defeats the tree general that retreats due to his injuries.
It's shown that Leira is embaressed of using her thief garments and quickly grabs her Priestess clothing due to Roka's commentaries about her body being showed too much. While carrying Avan through the woods, the finally find Brokeena.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai[]
Fifteen year ago, she was part of the party's assault on the Underground Palace.
Nowadays, she is still able to cast heal. In the 1991 anime, she could use Woosh-type spells during the assault on Hadlar's HQ.
Appearance[]
Leira has black hair and black eyes that both change to red while in the thief class.
She wears a priest poncho and mitre while in the priest class and a Stealth suit while in thief class. During the Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken time, she wears a pink long dress with a white apron, a pink shirt, brown shoes and a white hat. She kept her thief skin tight garments under her priest poncho.

Abilities[]
When she was a young priest, Leira has Heal-type spells that can restore the Injuries and Woosh-type spells to conjure up whirlwind vortexes to blow away enemies. She also can cast Accelerate, a spell that can temporarily Increases their speed and agility. She's also skilled in combat as she wields a weapon called a Polehammer.
As a thief called the "Shadow Woman", Leira is much more capable as she is stealthy, agile, and skilled with knifes and daggers, as she can quickly cut through her enemies with her small blade like the master of short-range attacks.

- She was level 20 as both a Priest and as Thief when she joined Avan's party.
- In the Spin-off series there's a running gag of her ability to near-istantly change from her priestly clothing to her stealth ones, even changing her hair and eyes somehow (as the author lampshaded).
