Biography[]
One of Astoltia's original heroes and Ashlay's younger twin brother; instructed by Ganihan in sword fighting since early age, he was instrumental in defeating the Great Demon King Goda and stopping the Invasion of Astoltia. To create balance between his tribe's rival tribe, Leone did not grow up with his biological parents, but was instead given to adoption to the chief of the rival tribe, thusly becoming General Tumble's step-brother. After the fight with the Great Demon King, Leone was however turned to stone through a petrification curse, seemingly by Goda, shortly after the battle.
In truth, the curse had not come from Goda at all, but was orchestrated by Daffia, Ashlay's future wife alongside her predecessor priestess; they were sure that the conflict between the two tribes would start anew after the defeat of Goda, so they coldly planned from the very start to get rid of anyone who survived the battle and couldn't be easily controlled, thusly achieving their desired outcome.
Leone was then accidentally awakened centuries later by the another Hero, who was just a boy named Azir, the descendant of Ashlay and prince of the kingdom founded by him, what would later be called Grand Zetannia; since Azir was too young and not prepared, Leone trained and aided him in his fight with the thirteenth Great Demon King, Varzad. Unfortunately, due to Leone's mistakes in judgement, Azir did not survive the battle, and in her grief, the mother of the boy, the queen, blamed Leone, painting him as a cold blooded murder so that she could execute him as a traitor; despite the attempts to save Leone's life by a companion that knew full well how much Leone loved Azir, the queen did not listen, and Leone, who had lost the will to live due to the death of his beloved pupil, did nothing to defend himself. But before the queen could burn him to the stake, a lightning bolt struck the pire, killing everyone present, inclunding Leone himself.
Upon his death, his soul was selected by the Angels of Tenseikyo to be revived as a new protector god. Unfortunately, the Angel who was sent to retrieve him had been secretly been tainted by the evil influence of the destructive Jia Kut Clan. While manipulating Leone's sadness, the corrupted Angel asked for his assistance in an evil plan to corrupt the other god candidates with a curse of hatred, even shoving the Hero the true culprit behind his petrification. Broken by the tragedies he had to endure in his mortal life, Leone had turned into a misanthrope, and desiring to wipe out the imperfect Human race, he accepted the deal, corrupting himself and becoming instrumental for the success of the conspiracy, even manipulating Ashlay, now corrupted by the curse of hatred he had planted, by lying to him about his true intentions.
With Ashlay's unwitting assistance, Leone was able to unseal the Shield of Astoltia, a relic of the Goddess Luciana meant to hide Astoltia away from the Jia Kut Clan, from his protecting shrine and destroy it, then he called out for the ancient invaders. This lead to one member of the Jia Kut Clan, Jia Lumina, to reach Astoltia, and begin her invasion of the planet.
Once Jia Lumina officially lost to the Hero and the party, Leone, deeming her just as imperfect as the humans, murdered her and ate her core, in the process turning himself into a monster, and vowing to destroy both humanity and the Jia Kut Clan before fighting the Hero, Euriza, and the restored Ashlay. After his ultimate defeat at his brother's hand, the last embers of his life briefly kept burning in his wing-like hair ornament, and aided the Hero into repell a massive attack from the Jia Kut Clan's monster armies, before dissipating for good into the afterlife.
Not much time later, Leone would appear as a dying vision of Ashlay following the battle with the Jia Kut Clan's Psychic Giant, as the former was fading due to having spent all of his lifeforce by sustaining the gigantification of the Hero thanks to the new Shield of Astoltia alongside his fellow new gods, power-up the Divine Sword Lectalys, and finally shielding the Hero and Anlucia all in rapid succession. Leone was silent during the vision, seemingly ashamed of his past behavior, yet Ashlay was still very happy to see him and peacefully passed away, dissipating into light.
