The liquid metal sword is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest series that often puts it in contention to be the best weapon in their respective game. The weapon is usually acquired late in the main quest with only one available.

Dragon Quest IV[]
The Liquid metal sword gives an attack bonus of +130. It cannot be bought and is acquired in the optional dungeon Cascade Cave accessible with the Karstaway stone. The weapon can be held by the Hero, Kiryl, Ragnar, Meena, Torneko and Psaeo.
Dragon Quest VIII[]
The Liquid metal sword gives an attack bonus of +118, making it one of the strongest swords available, and can be held by the Hero, Angelo and, once their knife skill reach respectively 30 and 59 points, Jessica and Red can also equip it. It cannot be bought and sells for 5000 gold. It will guarantee to hit metallic monsters for 1-2 damage, but sadly its effect does not stack with the Metal Slash skill. The only way to acquire a Liquid metal sword is through Alchemy.
Recipe: Orichalcum, Rusty old sword and Slime crown
The Liquid metal sword can be also re-transformed into the Rusty old sword by combining it with a Mystifying mixture and a Cowpat.
In the 3DS version, Red in particular can make a phenomenal use of the Liquid metal sword against the Metal slime-type monsters, as when used in conjuntion with her knife skill Blade Cascade, she performs 6~8 strikes each dealing 2 hit points of damage, resulting in her being easily able to wipe out multiple metal monsters, even the otherwise bulky Metal king slimes, in one single turn.
