Lon Beruk is the character of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai and its animated adaptations.
Appearance[]
A Darkling with teal skin, he has their standard pointed ears, black hair and a large X-shaped scar across his face.
Personality[]
He is calm and honorable, only making weapons and allying himself with those he deems worthy.
Biography[]
He once was an Underworld's swordsman so powerful that he spent 10 years creating a technique that destroyed both his weapons and his arms, after spending 70 years recovering, he decided to become a blacksmith and spent 100 years creating his new Celestial Emperor dual blades.
Now the Underworld's best smith, he once was called by Vearn to serve as one of his subordinates. Lon Beruk made the Dark King a staff, the Staff of Edacity, which Lon Beruk himself considered to be his worst weapon, but on Vearn's hand turned to be one of his most dangerous weapons. He also created the Dark Armour Blade and the Dark Armour Spear.
90 years ago, he left Vearn's army and while leaving the castle had his face slashed by Mystvearn and giving him his signature scar. Lon Beruk said that he allowed Myst the first attack as he had humiliated Vearn, but warning him that the next one he would counterattack.
He ended up moving to the human world and working as a blacksmith and giving his creations to Popp's father while living in a cottage near his town.
Plot[]
Holy Sword Arc[]
Popp's father introduces Lon Beruk to Dai after the tournament at Romos, when Dai was looking for the Sword of Champions. Lon Beruk at first didn't see Dai as a worthy swordsman, but after hearing that he destroyed the Dragon Knight's sword with a sword that he has created, the Dark Armour Blade, he would gladly make Dai a sword for free, as long the hero brought him some orichalcum.
After getting his hands at the Crown of Champions that was made from orichalcum, Lon Beruk started to craft the Sword of Dai stating Dai would need to be present during the whole process, while Popp and the others returned to Papnica to protect it from the Sovereign Rock Castle.
Epic Challenge Arc[]
After the battle, Dai and Hyunckel goes to Lon Beruk for repairs, with the darkling saying that his weapons would fix themselves with time but says that the duo would be trained by him. He is impressed by Hyunckel swordsmanship, saying it might exceed his own, wondering why Hyunckel insisted to wield a lance.
Holy Ordeal Arc[]
Lon Beruk stayed at Papnica while Dai and his party were invading Vearn's ship. When Vearn summoned his staff, Lon Beruk said that the Sword of Dai would have no chance against that weapon. Both the Sword of Dai and Dark Armour Spear return to him after their owner's defeat by the hands of Vearn. Lon Beruk says that the two weapons returned to him as they wanted to be upgraded.
After the sages and Baduck insist to him to make weapons for everyone, he swallows his pride and craft a weapon for all of Dai's party and deliver it to them.
Halo Arc[]
Lon Beruk also participates in the final battle against the monsters from the Underworld and Zaboera. He first faces Mystvearn, being both at the same level (however both were holding back). When Myst returns to the ship, he leaves Zaboera behind that then transforms in Hyper Zaboera. Nova offers his own life for a powerful Aura Blade to be formed.
Lon Beruk than stops him and return his vigour, saying that his courage and determination were more than enough and that he, Lon Beruk, should be the one to make a sacrifice. Lon Beruk than uses his most powerful yet most dangerous weapons, a dual blade, defeating Hyper Zaboera but losing both of his hands. Nova then says that he will be the one serving as Lon Beruk's hands for his smith works from now on.
Flash of Light Arc[]
Nova and Lon Berk are the ones who freeze with Crack the Vearn Pillar Black Core over the Roroy Valley in Carl.
At the epilogue he appears saying that Dai is still alive as the gem on the Sword of Dai was still shining. He then appears again tutoring Nova in smith skills.
