Long John Silverbones is a character in Dragon Quest Treasures. He's the merciless leader of the gang of Sky Pirates known as the Thunderous Plunderers.
Etymology[]
Being a silver-toned skeleton pirate, this antagonist is modelled on and named after Long John Silver, a character from the 1883 Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island.
Biography[]
Dragon Quest Treasures[]
Originally being a partner of Captain Levanter under the King to find treasure in Draconia, they were close allies until Long John Silverbones became too power obsessed, only to betray Captain Levanter in the pursuit of greed. Not much is known about his backstory before his betrayal and before the time you meet him in game.
Battle[]
Long John Silverbones has two “final” fights where you face off against him. Both fights are the same, just that they differ in level. You will start off fighting a selection of monsters. You won’t be able to harm Silverbones yet, but beating all the monsters progresses the fight further. He then amasses power, fusing with the three stone statues that decorate the arena. You will have to fight stone versions of the Beasts of Cinders, Sands, and Snows, the only difference being that they lack the weaknesses of the regular counterparts. (I.E they can’t be stunned as Cinder and Sands lack the obstacles to crash into and Snows will not be affected by pellets, although their gems are still present and attackable.) Defeating all three will lower Silverbones to around half health to where you can start the final part of the fight. While fighting Silverbones he will occasionally “build up power” to where he has a knockdown bar show up. Successfully knocking him down will allow the player to preform a quick time to “steal” the dragon stones back. Defeating him the first time only puts him temporarily in a cage in the stockade in the mainland, while the second time he admits defeat, but after the second time is permanently re-fightable whenever the player desires.
