In IX, the Hero always begins the game as this class. It has limited healing and damaging spells on top of the ability to wield fans, swords, whips, and shields. Minstrel is a fairly balanced class, partly because all of a minstrel's stats improve each level, whereas only some of the other classes' stats improve on each level-up. Their coup de grâce is "Rough N' Tumble," which increases evasion and counterattack chances.

Dragon Quest X

The Minstrel is one of the six starting vocations available in version 1.0 of Dragon Quest X. They can use Fans, melee Staves, Knives, Boomerangs, Fisticuffs and Shields, each one with their own individual skill trees, with their exclusive skill tree being once again Litheness (きょくげい Kyokugei). Their coup de grâce is likewise Rough N' Tumble (アクロバットスター) once again. Between Hustle Dance, Sobering Slap, and other skills, Minstrels are incredibly versatile supports with great healing, buffing and anti-status power.
