NieR:Re[in]carnation was a mobile battle RPG developed by Japanese game maker Applibot, Inc. and published by Square Enix, using assets from Square Enix's NieR franchise of action games, itself a sub-franchise of the lesser-known Drakengard games. Due to undisclosed issues, publishers closed the game 29 April 2024.
The game follows the individual stories of several inhabitants of a dystopian world who become trapped in an all-encompassing data grid known as The Cage, a maze constructed from the memories of adventurers and warriors past, present, and future contained in weapons of war. Those entering the Cage must repair the corrupted stories behind the weapons they find, and are guided through it by a mysterious ghostlike species whose members include "Mama", "Papa", "Babe", and many others.
Connections to Dragon Quest[]
NieR:Re[in]carnation hosted a month-long event based on Dragon Quest X. The event included a Variation (boss challenge) against Nelgel and a daily quest for prizes dropped by slime and metal slime corruptions. The in-game gacha also featured Dragon Quest-inspired weapons and costumes for selected units.
