Ojaros is a character in Dragon Quest X.

Personality[]

When first met, he is a very kind person and allows the Hero and Illusia to drain the miasma from the Mound in his territory, praising the girl for doing so. He is devoted to Elgadora and the kingdom of Zexus, even caring for Azbar. He has morals, objecting to Elgadora transforming her son into the Ancient Demon to ensure a swift victory at the cost of so many lives. However, his devotion to Elgadora was feigned and was waiting for her to die so he could be king, showing his evil. When Illusia purifies the citizens of the darkness controlling them, he angrily says he should've never praised her in the first place, showing his spite and contempt.

Biography[]

Ojaros is first seen with an escort from Zexus when the Hero and Illusia are draining miasma from several Mazuka Mounds at The Oracle's request. Ojaros tells his escort not to attack them as they are guests and allows Illusia to drain the miasma from his territory's Mazuka Mound, which she does. He later praises her for purifying the mound. His Zexus escort informs him they should meet up with Elgadora for a briefing, and Ojaros thanks them again before taking his leave. Later, he shows up at Farazade alongside Shish Kebab about attacking the Valdista Fortress. When Shaka pokes fun at the strategy however, he angrily states this is the only way to win the war, to which the Demon agrees. He later leaves to ready the Zexus army for battle and later observes the war with Elgadora and Azbar. When Elgadora turns Azbar into a monster to change the war, which ends in Nagene's death and forces Valeria and her army into retreat, Ojaros is horrified that the queen would use an underhanded method to ensure a victory at the cost of her son's wellbeing and runs away. When Valeria and her army show up to Zexus on a mission to assassinate the queen, she transforms Azbar into the Ancient Demon again after blocking Valeria's ice attack, to Ojaros's horror once again. He later watches Beltro call off the attack over Valeria's presumed death, while the queen gloats about using her son to conquer all the kingdoms of the Netherworld, however Shaka shows up and attacks the Demon's crystal forehead, breaking her control, forcing Elgadora to exert her power in attempting to control the Ancient Demon again, which results in her death. After a grueling fight with the monster, Ojaros stops Shaka from killing Azbar and pleads him to spare him saying this was Elgadora's idea in the first place, which the Archfiend of Farazade begrudgingly accepts even after pointing his sword at Ojaros's neck. During the ending of 5.1, he is seen helping Azbar recover to succeed his mother as ruler of Zexus. When the Hero, Illusia, and Rinvery enter Azbar's room after visiting the Wetlings, he has a friendly chat with the guests, but makes his nephew suspicious after a remark. When Azbar apologizes for jumping to conclusions, Rinvery reminds him that there's something odd about all this and calls him out for being too forgiving after what Elgadora did to him. Ojaros thanks his nephew for forgiveness and leaves, picking up a suspicious wand in the process. He later assures Rinvery that everything's fine, to the young Demon girl's objections, who takes the thing she gave to the Hero and teleports away. Ojaros apologizes to Illusia for the scene Rinvery caused and takes his leave. After a vision of his sinisterness and him actually wanting Elgadora dead, Azbar decides to address his people about his mother's passing, with his uncle glaring at him. When he says there is a traitor in their midst, he signals Rinvery to summon a pink mist, knowing his uncle would try something evil. Ojaros chastises Rinvery for this act, although Azbar reminds his uncle that his mother, although she used him, had kindness in her soul and that there was more to her than just her sadistic evil. Ojaros attempts to remind his nephew that they must move on and look to the future, saying her remains and memory are no good for the kingdom. When Azbar objects saying that moving on from his mother is disrespecting her legacy, Ojaros uses his wand to pain the queen's remains and Rinvery snaps her fingers, awakening the people of Zexus, while Azbar announces that Ojaros is the traitor and he was playing the kingdom like a fiddle, even making his mother do evil to the Netherworld and himself. Impressed, Ojaros reveals that the people are under his control and orders them to attack, with Illusia using her light to dispel the dark souls from the people of Zexus, although she nearly passes out after purifying the citizens who watched the speech from below. Rinvery helps her up, with the traitorous Ojaros saying he'll never forgive her and transforms into a monster resembling Id. Azbar says his uncle will pay for what he did, beginning the fight against him. After a grueling fight, Azbar runs to Elgadora's remains and uses Lido's Talisman that the Hero obtained from the Rotten Mausoleum, curing her for a brief time. However, Ojaros uses more magic to force Elgadora's remains into more pain and mocks him for being too caring to his mother who controlled him and turned him into the Ancient Demon to ensure a swift victory for Zexus at the cost of so many lives, causing the queen's remains to feel ashamed at her past actions. Azbar tells his mother that her past actions did not matter, and despite her manipulation of him, he still cared for her no matter what. Elgadora states that even though Azbar was naive, he must help the kingdom move on from her sins by truly becoming king and slay Ojaros for setting up her demise, causing him to summon Rigibalus. Ojaros gloats that if he killed him, he will be just like his mother when she forced him to attack people, but Azbar grunts and has Rigibalus grab his mother's remains and Ojaros, while making peace with Elgadora, who departs for the afterlife. Ojaros is later dragged by Rigibalus and is killed by the creature, restoring Zexus's peace.
