For the monster first introduced in Dragon Quest XI, see Penny pincher.

Penny Pincher is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series.

Description[]

Damages one enemy while stealing its money.

Appearances[]

Dragon Quest VIII[]

Making its debut, it is learned when Yangus invests 25 skill points into his Club skill tree. It costs 2 MP to use, and steals 10% of an enemy's money when it connects, and does not detract from the gold accumulated at the end of battle. When 93 skill points are invested, it is replaced with the more powerful Gold Rush.

Dragon Quest IX[]

Acting the same as in VIII, it is learned with 13 skill points invested into the Hammer skill tree and costs 2 MP to use once again.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker[]

Penny Pincher costs 2 MP to use and has a 50% chance of stealing gold from the target. There is a limit to how much gold can be stolen per battle. The skill can be learned from:

  • Bounty Hunter (20 points)
  • Captain Crow (4 points)
  • Huntsman (20 points)
  • Thief (49 points)

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2[]

Penny Pincher can be learned from all the skill sets it could be previously.

Dragon Quest Treasures[]

Known as Strike Gold in this spinoff entry, it is learned by Golden goliaths and functions similarly to Glowstick, but generates a larger light explosion to deal greater damage to enemies around it. It costs 6 MP to use, but has a brief charge time that leaves the Goliaths vulnerable.
