Pincushion is a recurring ability in the Dragon Quest series.

Defends the user from attack and deals 1/4 of the damage dealt to the attacking monster.

Dragon Quest IX[]
Making its main series debut, it is learned by investing 4 skill points into the Paladin's Virtue skill tree. It costs 0 MP to use, and is used by Wyrtoises and Gloomy gastropogs, so caution must be taken.
Dragon Quest X[]
Acting the same as in IX, it is learned by investing 2 skill points into the Paladin's Virtue skill tree instead of 4. It costs 3 MP for the first time since the Monsters series, and is also used by Tortoceratopses, Terrorceratopses, Disfigurines, Zombie paladins, Greenbones, Deadorians, and Needle rabbits. It is also learned by the Hero in the Paladin vocation at level 2 in the Offline version of the game.
Dragon Warrior Monsters[]
Known as BladeD it halves the damage inflicted by the foe from physical attacks and reflects the damage taken 50% of the time. It can be learned naturally by Rosevine, SlimeBorg, and Swordgons and can be learned at level 14 with 98 HP, 84 Atk, 84 Def and 84 Agl. It costs 3 mp to use.
Dragon Warrior Monsters 2[]
BladeD functions the same as it does in the previous game. It can be learned from combining the TwinSlash, and StrongD skills. It can be learned naturally by SlimeBorg, Swordgon, Rosevine, Bubblemon, Niterich, and SeaHorse.

Dragon Quest Champions[]
Reappearing after a long hiatus, it acts the same as in previous appearances and is learned at level 10 when wielding the Steel broadsword, Platinum sword, and Aliahan sword weapons, costing 3 MP to use once again.
