PlayStation Portable (PSP)

The PlayStation Portable (PSP), was a handheld video game system manufactured by Sony between 2004 and 2011. It was the company's first handheld system, and was the third member of the PlayStation series of video game hardware.

Introduced during the PlayStation 2 era, the system was marketed as offering a DVD-quality PlayStation experience in a handheld form factor. It eventually became a companion console to the PlayStation 3; and along with the PS3, the PSP was one of the first consoles with integrated wireless connectivity and access to the PlayStation Network. The PSP was also marketed as an elite media player, with games, film, and television programmes being distributed digitally and on Sony's proprietary Universal Media Disc (UMD).

The PSP was available in five different model lines, each improving upon a previous model. However, the final two models, the budget-friendly E1000 and the ultraportable PSPgo, were digital-exclusive. Its successor was the 2012 PlayStation Vita, with which its downloadable content is compatible,

Direct-to-device service for the handheld was discontinued between 2014 and 2016. Its digital storefront was closed in all regions as of 2 July 2021. Players who have previously downloaded PSP content can re-download their purchases via their PSN account history.
